Totally agree. I am not a diehard gun owner. And I just joined.

Write your congressperson. Write both senators. Write your governor. Write Speaker of house and house majority leader. Write Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell. Write the president. Send whatever cash you want to NRA or GOA.

Write respectfully and do not threaten. Thank them for respecting your point of view and protecting your freedoms.

And do it again.

Probably should explain a little more. I am an extreme penny pincher. And I have never seen a benefit to joining the NRA in the past. And didn't want to part with my money. But things have changed. As a responsible gun owner, it is my feeling that the NRA is the best organization to donate my money to protect my rights.

I heard the number 8000 new members/ day after the Conn shooting. A lot of folks see what the potential downside could lead to.

Agreed 100% if they were able to do this in Illinois to postpone the vote........we can do the same in Minnesota and the same to DC!!

I was recently sent the below link to a video on youtube about the Australian gun buy back program and I thought it went with the last post from 45Badger.....this is obviously an extreme but this is what happens when people remain passive and don't make their voices heard. Make your voices heard in whatever way possible!

I agree, I just wish we had two senators worth writing to. I'll send my letters, probably won't even get a canned response from them lol

I think something will be passed, but I don't think it will be another AWB, or a "high capacity" magazine ban I just don't think the "R"s in the house will work with the President anymore.

Part of me thinks that all that will come out of this is the "gun show loophole" will get some kind of "fix".

But what do I know (or any of us)?

I've written all my federal and state officials, multiple times. I've written to St Paul City Council (non-St Paul resident, but why not?), explaining respectfully why I had to disagree with their statement and made the case for preserving gun rights.

I'm not going down without a fight. No way. This whole thing affects my business. It affects my hobby. It affects my rights as a free citizen. (and no, that was not in any order)

LarryP, you are entitled to your opinion of course, but I would still fight the good fight against such bs being implemented. EVERYONE needs to bug the living heck out of their senators and congress people, local, county people, jopin the NRA, donate when and where you can, and most off, stop putting the negative energy out there that we must lose something or not win in this battle. Let's stop being against one another and be together.

At this point the only voices you hear are from our opponents, who are ready to strike at every strategy. They have bills, materials, ect, all recycled. Suddenly a tragedy, right after a big DFL victory.

We didn't want any changes, so they are the ones making all the noise. It just seems like they are "winning".

The AWB didn't work, and they really have nothing new. It sounds great that they want to limit purchases by mentally deficient people, but there is no database for that, and it's a moving target. The mental health industry will not be able to provide such information. And it's in reality, all subjective. And if they start treating mental patients with "penalties" (no guns for you ever) they will go backward, becasue people and their families will hide problems rather than get treatment.

The problem is that the paid lobbyists, (the 10 million doallar NRA is nothing compared to the billion dollar Joyce Foundation) will not be interested in becoming advocates for the mentally ill, they are paid to hate individualists. But calm rational spokesment for our side have yet to be heard. What you hear are people the antis put on TV. It's like pro rasslin', some folks are paid to play bad guys and get beaten.

Keep the faith I think.

I can confirm, you get a canned response every time you write them

By the way, I see what you're doing there, LarryP, and nice job. Motivating people by saying something can't be done might just be what the doctor ordered in this case.

On a related side note, Gifford is starting an anti-gun organization now too.
