I am thinking of researching a compound bow for my 13 year old...NO idea where to start, but she wants to try archery.

Let me guess, she and/or all of her friends watched "Hunger Games".

She read all three books a few times. This stemmed from a good friend who has been practicing for years. Either way, no matter the influence, I like the outcome. Why not learn it? I don't care if a movie sparked a craze when it's not "hey dad, I want to go to bars and be a whore like those chicks on Jersey shore".

Kiddo had just turned 8, but he's been handling real guns since he was 5. He still had trouble holding the gun on target, but with some assistance he was aiming perfectly and making good hits at 7 yards. I had him shooting my m4gery last summer, but he prefers his marlin 15y (mainly because he can hold it up).

That's great! I meant no offense in my comment but just wanted to point out that the media (movies, books, etc.) DOES play an important part of influencing our youth. Unlike the Hollywood types that insist on their 1st amendment rights to put out whatever garbage the kids will watch, and then say it's only entertainment and has nothing to do with influencing behavior. BULL!

I dont know where you are located, but there is a place in Coon Rapids called Average Joe's Archery. They run groupons every once in a while for rental of a bow, and a Heggies pizza. If you want to talk to someone about Archery/Bows and prefer it not to be someone in a big box retailer, I would suggest them. The wife and I went there with another couple for a date night. I have used a bow before, none of them had. They dudes working were really nice, patient, and had all teh equipment to rent that fit me, 6'2" 225lbs and the other girl at 5'4" 120lbs (best guess).

I live half a mile from Average Joe's. I'd rather drive to Capra's after the last two times I was in Joe's.
