Suppressor rentals

After sending Tony Cornish a note about suppressors, it dawned on me that we should be exposing more people to them in the real world.

Several handguns cost about a grand to provide as a range rental, and a can could be had for around the same price after stamp. So why not offer them for $15 and expose more public to their benefits?

As far as I know, no, they are not legal in MN (not for the general public anyway).

In regards to rentals, I do wonder if the law change in MN last year would make renting an option

(c) Notwithstanding subdivision 1a, paragraph (a), clause (1), a person who is licensed by the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives under United States Code, title 18, section 923, as a firearms importer, manufacturer, or dealer, who is acting in full compliance with all federal requirements under that license, may possess devices designed to silence or muffle the discharge of a firearm for the purpose of selling or otherwise transferring in any lawful manner the devices or firearms tested with the devices, to:
(1) the chief administrator of any federal, state, or local governmental agency;
(2) the commander or commander's designee of any unit of the United States Armed Forces; or
(3) a person who is licensed by the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under United States Code, title 18, section 923, as a firearms importer, manufacturer, or dealer, who is acting in full compliance with all federal requirements under that license.

The law change is exactly what made me wonder if it was possible. Exposure would breed desire and education, so more people would see the benefits and push for legalization. Just like how many of us expose our children to firearms to take away their fear and curiosity - if we could just get people to stop fearing suppressors as only useful for masking assassinations, we might be able to sway the tide in our favor.

In my message to Tony, I asked him to consider a MT style bill which would allow us to own and manufacture for our own use without having to pay the tax stamp on the item if it wasn't transferred out of the state. If I was legally allowed to own a suppressor, with my machinery I could make (a nice) one for under $50, but I'd have to pay the feds $200 and wait 6+ months for them to grant me permission to do so. I think that's insane, considering how beneficial suppressors would be to the shooters for hearing protection, and for neighbors of shooting ranges.

I also mentioned that poaching is a non-issue, because right now you can kill deer with a bow or crossbow which anyone can legally purchase and they hardly make any sound.

I for one would LOVE to suppress my guns since I'd rather not have the large bang every time I pull the trigger. Vehicles have mufflers, why not guns? Every year more people are killed by vehicles than guns, and vehicles are suppressed, so why aren't they safer than guns?

I have been trying, and trying, and trying, since early December, to get a phone and/or sit down with Rep Cornish on this very topic; but with little result.

I believe that there is plenty of positive precedent to draw upon, from the other states around us that allow suppressors, to justify finally bringing MN more in line with federal law.

I would be open to joining forces with others in MN who feel the same way, in an effort to change mind and laws. Please PM me if you would feel the same way, and would like to see this accomplished.
