I bought PNY ammo from my local walmart for $19 per box. I know the ammo isn't ideal, but its there.

Yeah that's a much more reasonable price. True, it's ok. I mean, PNY isn't exactly Wolf or Tula (shudders).

It's cheap ammo. Personal preference, but I just don't care for it. The lowest quality target ammo I'll shoot it through my XDm .45ACP is the Blazer or PNY stuff, and I like the PNY over the Blazer. (One problem for me is that the Blazer has the aluminum casings Bill's doesn't allow and I save the brass to sell off to reloaders, so I don't use it unless I have to. I used 6 boxes of the Blazer and I didn't like it all that well.) I never had a FTF or jam on my .45 on anything I've put through it, so that's not the issue, it's just a personal preference based on the feel, response of it. BPR uses the PNY, it's a decent ammo and the least one I'd use on a regular basis for target shooting.
My favorite ball/target ammo is the MagTech (blue box stuff, I forget the actual name). Otherwise, Federal, Winchester, Remington/UMC, is all good by me. I also don't fire anything not jacketed (FMJ for target ammo) or JHP for defensive purposes, so no raw lead bullets with wax on them or anything like that. Never put a reloaded round through my XDm and most likely never will either.
I still haven't made up my mind on a good defensive round, but the Hornady TAP+P FPD 230gr JHP seems to be a good one to use.
As for my Ruger Mark II22/45, I'll use the Federal red box of 550 round stuff (my favorite), the Winchester bulk white box, or if I want to spend a bit more per round, the Ferrari of .22LR ammo, CCI. No Wolf, Tula, el -cheapo Russian made low quality stuff there either. I'm sure some people shoot the stuff (Wolf/Tula) and it doesn't give them issues, it's cheap, they don't mind it, etc, and that's good for them, but not for me. Again, it's all personal preference.

Because like every other range out there, they make money off of you and everyone else who leaves brass behind.
Even though I don't reload, I save the brass and sell 500 casings of .45ACP for $40.00. It helps me recoup my ammo costs somewhat.
I'm not about wasting money, and I know that shooting isn't cheap by any means, but if someone is going to pinch pennies that tightly, they probably should take up shootingThere's cheaper hobbies, sports, defense methods, etc.
You actually may be better off shooting stuff you reload vs. Wolf or Tula, unless you can't reload for the same or less cost than the cheap new ammo in those brands; but even if it is the same cost as new to just reload, you could probably reload a better and higher quality ammo than Wolf or Tula anyway.grousemaster wrote:I've actually had good luck with Wolf. I shoot it when I don't feel like chasing own brass, and I've actually had fewer issues with it than I have Federal or UMC. It is dirty and smells bad, but all ammo is dirty and I clean my guns frequently enough that the cost savings is all benefit and no drawbacks.

Just an FYI, Wolf rimfire ammo has nothing in common with Wolf centerfire ammo, aside from the name. It is actually made in Germany by Lapua and is some of the best rimfire ammo you will find at anywhere near it's price point. Generally speaking, it will almost always be the best .22 ammo you can buy at any local stores. Until you start spending $10-$20 a box on the boutique Eley, Lapua etc, you will not match it's performance. Wolf and the equivalent SK are the preferred practice ammo of many competitive smallbore shooters all over the world.
Avoid it if you like, but you may as well at least know what it is.
