Completely irrational. None of these will pass. The democrats are fractured on this issue. And the republicans are in lock step. And elections are coming up; ones where gun advocates are strongly opinionated, and the rest of society doesn't give 2 ******* about.

If there was every a time to put aside political camps this is it. This is an american issue, and trying to fit it into a neat party line pushes it more towards 50/50 than the larger support it has now.

When democrats can stand against this and explain to their nutty brethren (and idiotic republicans who dont understand) that they are standing up for an american ideal instead of a party platform, we will win every time.
