So I let 5 relatively new shooters try an AR15 on Saturday..

I also sent an email out to friends and family asking them to join the NRA - the result was 10 new memberships.

The folks at the range were mighty appreciative for the trigger time on my AR. One commented, "Wow, it isn't that bad".

I talked to two new folks who looked scared to death at the range and told them, "Yeah, even I don't like the sound of that .460, but it sure is an experience isn't it??" I then offered them a chance to try my Buckmark we joked about working their way up to a .460. They left happy and excited.

Random acts of kindness at the range - who wants to join me?

How about a contest - who can get the most NRA memberships under their belt.

Another contest - who can introduce the moost shooters to our sport between now and the end of the month.

Thoughts?

Good for you. So much fear and ignorance surrounding those rifles. Getting people unfamiliar to actually see that they aren't some kind of magic killing machine is really valuable.

The AR-15 is always the life of the party. Whenever I get together with people to shoot, the AR gets the most attention. They always want to look but feel scared to touch. Once you convince them to give it a go, they don't want to give it back.

My entire family has joined the NRA in the last month at my recommendation. So I am at 6.

I also bought a $10 NRA gift membership for friend of mine that falls inline with the gun-grabber mentality. We joke around with each other a lot. He still has not mentioned anything to me so I assume the NRA has not mailed him anything yet. We also both know that there will be no chance that either one of us will concede to the other in our opinions. But we are cordial to each other with our politics. So, we never really talk politics. But outside of the political differences, we get along pretty good.

hey Walstein, thanks for letting me play with your ARs. i've never handled something so evil and scary before! i think i'll be permanently scarred, and i'll be needing psychiatric help.

well, the psychiatric help part isn't too far off :)

I wonder if anyone has been kind enough to give Obummer a gift membership to the NRA??

Perhaps I should have mentioned that three of the five were Eric and the other nice folks living in his head.

I hope you weren't shooting indoors or under 400 yards, because that would be pointless.

Heh. He'll be along shortly ;)

Personally, I only train under stress -- otherwise what's the point? I bring my wife along to the range to yell at me so I can run drills under duress.

As you know, the range is only 25 yards... but I was shooting AP, so I'm sure it went at least 400.
