starting a homebased gun business

These are all great posts I am new to this forum but i am very eager to start my own homebased gun business. My question or questions are what are some of the fee's involved with say getting a tax id, or applying with the city for permits and such. Are there any other fees that I should know about before I begin the process?

If it was me, the very first thing would be to do some research to be certain you could have a gun business in your municipality and location, then make sure zoning issues are covered. No sense in going beyond that if it can't happen where you're at. And going through that process should reveal some of the answers you seek.

I can't say for certain as I haven't done this myself, but I've been told that you can request to have your garage issued a separate mailing address, and then use that address as your business address. BATFE would be able to inspect your garage, but would need a search warrant to enter your home. I knew a couple home based manufacturers awhile back that had separate addresses for their garages.

Unfortunately, I live in Minneapolis, so doing this idea is a no-go for me. I'd love to find a really cheap place I could rent to setup as an FFL07.

Ed, thanks I am currently looking into the zoning not only here in FL but when i move back to NC, I am currently in the Military and would like to get my FFL now so that when I retire I would try to make a go of actually having my own Firearm business.

You're way ahead of the game not being here, in the Twin Cities proper. I'm almost certain neither the city of St Paul, nor Mpls would allow any new FFL activity, which was my reason for getting that part behind you.

FYI, don't plan on paying your bills selling guns. Yes, right now prices are high and dealers are making a killing....but generally speaking, the websites kill our margins. Plus, they don't have to charge tax.
