The government is supposed to be regulating something with the powder in the near future. Not sure what is being added or taken out. But i heard two stories on this. One is that the powder is supposed to break down in a year. And the other store told me that the powder will break down in 5 years. So the government is buying up alot of "old stock" because once this passes legislation, then companies will be building new ammo with the new regulated powder. It's supposed to help keep people from stockpiling ammunition. They figure nobody will want to stockpile it since the shelf life will be either 1 year or 5 years. Whichever it is. That's basically what i heard today on it.
It sucks. But the place i buy ammo from is fine. I stopped in today and bought 400 rounds of .223
This is the same BS rumor that was circulating back in the 90's during the Clinton administration, only back then it was primers. It would be easier for the government to ban the sale of smokeless powder to the civilian market than reformulate it to breakdown after a few years.
