I thought a gun was just a tool to you that served only to protect yourself and you're family, why do you need to own all those guns for that? Especially the rifles, who do you plan on engaging at 400+ yards?

Add a good lever-action carbine I think.

You know, I've never really been a big fan of lever action guns. I know they have a long history in old spaghetti westerns, but why are they so popular?

What are the pros and cons to lever action guns? Maybe I've only been exposed to the Jam-o-matic 9000 versions of them in the past.

How many wrenches are in your toolbox? What do you need a 9/16ths for? Doesn't a 7/8ths work for everything?

An AR-15. If I could only take one it would be my Tac-Optics 3-gun rig since it's the most versatile in the fleet. 18" medium weight barrel with a 1-4 Burris MTAC scope. Shoots sub-moa with my 55 or 77 grain loads

A 12 ga. shotgun. Again I would take my 3-gun shotgun. Benelli M2 with a 26" barrel and and 10 round mag, 11 rounds fully loaded. It shoots bird, buck and slugs indiscriminately. Would work well both as a defensive and a hunting gun.

A defensive pistol. Torn between my XDm 3.8 compact in .40 or XDm 5.25 in .40. Probably go with the 5.25, cause if I could only take 5 guns with me I don't think concealability would be much of a factor anymore.

Gotta have one bigger gun. I'd take my custom Rem 700, 7mm Mag set up to be the ultimate long range hunting rifle. Shooting 180gr Berger VLD's, it's good medicine for pretty much any critter in NA, even if a tad light for the big bruins.

Can't live without a .22. I'd take one of my 10/22's. Probably the one with the Volquartsen snake fluted barrel, just cause it looks sexy......and it's a fricken tack driver.

GREAT video from some really good and knowledgeable guys. Here's their latest Gun Gripes video (58) and it also kind of fits into this discussion, but the guns need to be available. An AR-15 is on my list in this thread, but good luck finding one these days, and if you do find it, then to afford it.

Not sure what you mean by that post Sparky....You sayin I can't read ;)

As far as the video goes.....Not too bad of list, if you were starting from scratch. Though I would question the validity of anyone that recommended a pistol grip only (as in no shoulder stock at all) shotgun for home defense, especially for a novice. They look good in the movies, but IMHO aren't really very effective...... and yes do I own one, so I'm not just making this up or recycling internet fodder. Any gun that would make my list is something my wife could pick up and shoot easily. I don't think a pistol grip shotgun meets that line of criteria. If they had said a pistol grip shotgun with a folding stock it would have been a little more plausible. Again, that's just my opinion.

I someday want to try two identical shotguns, with the same ammo. One with a pistol grip, one with a regular stock.

Here's my list, in this order:

12 GA pump. 24" smoothbore with interchangeable chokes would be the best. That would be good for birdhunting, small game, large game, and home defense. 870, Winchester 1300, etc.

357 Revolver in 4". Good for large game inside of 50 yards, personal protection inside and outside the home. Smith 686, Ruger GP100

.22 LR rifle. Everyone needs one for plinking fun, good way to pass on shooting to young kids. Malrin tube fed, 10/22, etc

.308 bolt rifle. Large game out to 800 yards. Remington 700 or Savage 10

9mm semiauto. Self defense inside and outside the home, competition if that's your thing, plinking. Glock 19/4" XD

That's the "need" list. An AR would be right after that for general zombie defense etc.

Second fastest gun to cycle behind a semi-auto...holds more than 4 rounds....can take a beating and still work. And they're sexy looking. :D I'm not familiar with the Jam-o-matic 9000....is that a sub-division of Hi-Point? ;)
