I thought that was a little odd, and could create a situation like the one that recently happened in Florida with a licensed carrier violently arrested. I have yet to have a situation with a LEO while carrying. But I think I would hand the LEO my permit with my license as a subtle way to FYI.

Here is the dash cam from the arrest:

I'm not excusing the cop in that video for arresting him. But since when do you hop out of the vehicle without being asked - especially with a OWB, visible firearm on your side. And your hands are all over the place. He broke some many common sense rules for this traffic stop scenario I can't even count them all.

Agree, but some of the younger ones are not. Jason Lewis refers to them as "Law and Order Liberals." The policeman in the video is a prick and should be disciplined.

Why speed? I drive to Montana and Wyoming about 5 times per year. Once I get out of Minnesota I drive 15 to 20 mph over the limit and am willing to pay the fine if stopped. Speeders in western states are not treated as criminals as they are here. I've been stopped a few times in Montana and Wyoming. And I've never been asked if I was carrying any firearms (I always have at least two).

NO, Your carry permit does not show up when your record is viewed.

I am under the impression that the officer does have the capability of checking the BCA database, but that they rarely do.

Exceeding the posted speed limit by 20 mph is breaking the law. If you are not a criminal, what label do you prefer to wear?

Why did you lie to him? Everyone with a drivers license has a driving record at the DMV. It might be blank, but you still have it.

Never tried to argue semantics on the side of the road with a LEO.
I wonder how well that works :?

You could also tell the LEO to look it their self instead of bugging you.

A "moving violator" or "motion related offender" or something similar. The difference is that I am willing to admit to my offense and pay the penalty unlike these self righteous politicians who think that being a "public servant" excuses them of their actions.

I'll bet you never had a moving violation, MrsVvrroomm.

Yep. Keep the window rolled up, wave him/ her off as you make dramatic gestures to the cell phone in your ear.

It might also be a good time to clean your gun since they tend to take their sweet time. Bring a little tray, some Hoppe's 9, a few patches and a brush. I'm sure most officers will be impressed when they see a dissembled firearm on your lap.

I always wonder why they ask if you're carrying anything. With the nutbars they meet on their job, they don't believe you anyways. At least I wouldn't.
I'd think they approach every stop thinking you're a bad guy with a weapon. Not by actions, but in their mind. They can't afford to drop their defense.

Because the way you respond to a question can tell them more than your answer does.

Yes, we CAN get the permit info at the side of the road by asking dispatch. NO, it's not generally done as SOP.

I will OFTEN ask directly if there are firearms in the car - or if anyone is a permit holder.

I ASSUME that everyone is armed anyway, and do have a plan to kill you.

I teach that for a normal contact like a traffic stop, if the permit holder isn't asked, it won't necessarily help to volunteer the info that they're carrying. Again, cops assume everyone is armed and possibly dangerous anyway.

If you are going to disclose, avoid saying things like, "I have a gun!"

"I got a gun" .....
