Sell it. I would. Which Walmarts?

I'm thinking of trading it for a Brand new m&p 15-22 plus cash and a few mags. In my mind it would be more of a full time plinker I can abuse and have my other rifle for "real purposes"

I'm still ahead on that one as I have very little interest in taking advantage of anyone.

And the Walmart in Eau Claire had one when I was there a few weeks ago. Forgot the price but I would have had very little to now issue of buying right there but the other half didn't let me as she didn't think it was worth it to make a profit off of. She was probably right I probably wouldn't have sold it anyways and kept it. But I had to pass on it and let someone else enjoy the awesomeness of a Colt Carbine

Don't take advantage of anyone, just sell on an auction site, people pay what they want to for it. You probably walked away from $1000 on that Colt....

I am not an economist but I think it's hard for many to define just what is 'price gouging' because it can mean something different to each person. I would suggest that it's possible for price gouging to coexist with free markets of supply and demand, they don't have to be one or the other. I like the description that it's gouging when you overcharge for a necessity item to desparate people but I would add that the current gun control bills have created desparate people who feel they must buy those guns before they would be banned. The normal supplies are completely overburdened so it is anything but normal. Thus I would say that anyone that is not a reseller and is buying them when available only for the sole purpose of taking advantage of those desparate people to make a larger than 'normal' profit are in fact both engaging in a free market and price gouging at the same time. I believe that the supplies/prices for the guns will even out much sooner than the ammunition will primarily becuase people will continue to hoard ammo for their own purposes until long after supplies catch up and they feel comforatable that it will be readily available anytime they want it. Or not. Either way it's just my thoughts.....

Agree with Tronster.
Price gouging on non-necessity items isn't price gouging in my mind.

I've sold rifles, mags , etc. that ended up on Gunbroker a week after I sold them.
I had committed on a price and honored the price. If the buyer can turn around and make a few hundred , what's wrong with that?

I don't think I know many people that wouldn't do the same.

And don't forget, tax refund time is always a good time for gun selling, so I doubt
it will end soon.
And God forbid there's another crazy guy with a rifle, that'll get everything right up there again.

Desperate now for an AR? Not at all the same as the poor souls without water after a disaster. If the SHTF the general populace will know desperation, but I doubt millions of people became preppers overnight. Feels more like a stampede to me.

Desperation involving lack of access to ammo, guns, and sufficient shooters has a smell all it's own. Inevitably someone s**** his pants or tosses his cookies.

$$$OVER PRICED BLACK RIFLES$$$

Postby Glocktwenty3 on Fri Mar 01, 2013 6:42 pm

I'm guilty of gouging or making a profit from some sucker who couldn't wait til things calmed down. Sold my mini 30 for $1300. I also had a DPMS listed and had no hits on it. I've been seeing EBR's on the shelves more lately and sitting there for about 24 hrs. Took the money made on the ruger and bought a p226 MK25.

Nice! I can't remember what I paid for the mini back in 04 but it was no where near as much as what I sold it for. Shame on the people for paying these prices, not the people selling stuff. If someone is pissed off about people gouging, it probably means they weren't prepared and now have to pay the price to get prepared. If OP wants to buy a specific firearm or ammo and can't find it for a good price, he isn't trying hard enough. It's a lot of work to find the the firearm or ammo you're looking for these days, but it can be done.

ETA: you did good on the minis. I saw one at bills robbinsdale for 900 on the shelf.

The rifle I had listed in our market place just sold for $1175 on gunbroker. I sold lesser rifles for twice that three weeks ago. Things are calming a bit, at least on the AR side of things. Ammo prices have also eased a bit.... .22lr is probably the hottest on the market IMO.

I would say early signs are things are calming, magazines are out there, I've seen or know of AR's / uppers that have remained on store shelves for 24+ hours just like others mentioned... Ammo is still scarce but as a consumable that was already in short supply when the election panic started I think it will be hard to find a while longer ... not sure how soon it will normalize, probably be 2 years before we hit pre election prices again without external market (lead/copper commodities price spike, large government orders) or political variables (mass shooting, gun/ammo bans, etc..) wacking things up further.

Seriously, the people behind gun counters still look shell shocked, being constantly called/harassed by people looking for ammo, wondering about the next truck, wondering if they can get a couple extra boxes.. etc...

Yes, you are. Supply and demand controls the price. People that could have bought an 800 dollar AR any time during the last several years but didn't now seem to "need" one at 1700 dollars.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

I was mentally pricing out building another complete gun to sell a spare upper I have just assembled out of the parts bin after buying a barrel yesterday - I'd be in it for 1K with a BCG at what I paid for it last fall.

280 barrel (daniel defense)
180 DPMS lower
120 CMMG upper
15 barrel nut and delta ring assembly
30 Moe handguard
33 FSB
13 gas tube
5 handguard cap
20 charging handle
5 flash hider
120 BCG
70 LPK
65 buffer tube kit
50 Moe stock
$985+tax on all of that, plus gas money and time

Sure, they used to be cheaper - but often times you see people bragging up blems and used parts assembled, not complete guns out of first rate parts as their uber economy builds. Barrels can be had for $130 (green mountain), uppers can be had for 88 (red x), and lowers used to be found for 35 for poly stripped (ati via palmetto state). What you get really depends on what you put into it.

Yeah. It is crazy but...

This whole business reminded me I had a lower, in a box, without any plan for it, so I sold it for $400 bucks. Offered at $400, I had a response in an hour, and when I looked over the gentleman's credentials, I realized he probably added 2 hrs of driving to his day to get it! He was happy to get it. I was happy to clear it out. I call that win-win all around. If people pay those prices they thought it was worth it. If they think it costs too much, they are free to try and negotiate or walk away.
