Funny story...but true.

Postby Gun Mouse on Sat Mar 09, 2013 2:48 pm

My business partner and I went to Gander Mountain to look at a few guns. We started with the new .357 8 shooter. Very nice gun but when I asked about ammo he said they don't have it. So I said cool let me see 44 mag. another very nice gun. OK can I get ammo for this and he told me yes we can put you on the list. I said...a list? He tells me yeah you would be around 3000 on that list. Ouch !! OK let's make it simple I say. Let me take a look at that .40 cal and before he handed it to me he say's yep. No ammo for this gun either. So I asked him why would I buy a gun with no ammo? He looked at me shroud his shoulders with a smile. What does that mean? So where do you buy ammo now and what available ?

Which Gander as I am pretty sure there were many boxes of 44 mag on the shelf at the EP location 2-3 days ago. That and 10mm were very plentiful.

3000 locally? Now that's just crazy. When I work the ranges at OGC, I might see one .44 anything the entire weekend.

Yep. I know, I thought .44 mag would be fairly easy. But I'm told all ammo right now is in high demand. This guy say's as fast as it hit's the self its gone. It's Crazy.

I was just at the Woodbury Gander in the last hour and they had both .357 and .40 ammo. Dicks in Woodbury had some UMC .38 special. Gander had several flavors of .40 s&w of the shelf. Not at prices I would pay, but they had it.

I would have like the Smith and Wesson .357 8 shooter. Something about that gun I just like. The gentleman behind the counter said he had no ammo in stock for all 3 guns. Maybe he lied and didn't want to sell any guns. I haven't had a chance to go look anywhere else, but I will. Just thought that was strange for my first stop.

I call/smell B.S., as how could he tell if you didn't already have ammo or were a reloader?? He was probably hanging onto that little beauty for a friend or something...

If you really wanted a particular gun that they had in stock and was priced right why would you give a rat's ass about whether that particular store has ammo? Impatient much? Buy the gun and find ammo somewhere else later. You'll have the gun forever - whether you get out to shoot it today or two weeks from now isn't a big deal.

I'm also confused about your waiting list comment... 3000 people from that one store/company waiting on a single particular handgun model? Or was that just hyperbole? Or were you saying there is a waiting list for .44 mag ammo?
