Q: Is ammo arriving at stores?
A: Yes.

Q: Why are the shelves always empty?
A: You get there too late/too early.

Q: How can I get ammo?
A: Pay through the butt cheeks or get your timing figured out.

Q: How can I prevent this (panicking) in the future?
A: Once supply and demand stabilizes, start increasing your inventory.

Instead of thinking; "How much ammo do I need for my next range trip?"
Think; "How much ammo do I need to sustain my level of shooting for 12 months?"
Also ask; "Is reloading a valid option for my type of shooting?"

Depends on how fast you get there before the hoarders, gun show sellers, and friends do. ;)

I did an online order as it was the same make and grain as my existing bullets so I don't have to re-zero. The store stuff may be of different make and such so it wouldn't be that great to own for me.

Thunder71, great post, you perfectly and succinctly captured the thoughts clanking around in my skull.

If people focused on the next 2 months instead of 12, or 24, or 962 (like some around here), we wouldn't have bare shelves.

My Walmart got some .45 in the other day. If I recall correct, there were five 100 round boxes, two 50 round boxes of WWB, and three boxes of 50 round Federal. I bought one box of 100 at about 7:00pm. Went back in the next morning before work, it was all gone.

I don't really care what people's opinion of the ammo craze is. When I can go online and buy cases of Wolf 7.62x39 for $200 + shipping again, I will consider the craze over.

I personally think it's that line of thinking that got us in this position, and in some ways keeps us there.

For the most part I don't think it's the people with 40,000 rounds buying up all the ammo - it's the people who didn't plan ahead who are freaking out because they don't have any, and in turn buy every box they can find.

The ones with plenty of ammo aren't paying $50/500 rounds of 22LR, they might be selling it for that, but they're certainly not buying it.

I don't have 12 months of ammo on hand, and I'll be damned to pay more than .05 a round for .22lr. :?

I've also walked out without any ammo when I was in the FF range store and they had full shelves.

How about .41 a round?

Makes my paltry .20 a round cheap. Glad I didn't sell it!!

The people on this forum tend to have the common sense not to be taken for the prices the people on GB pay....the people on GB paying these prices must literally be desperate. I would not shoot before I paid $70 for a brick of .22lr.

Well, I wouldn't pay it either.

If common sense is so common, then how come not everyone stocked up on ammo beforehand? A lot of people, even on here, are looking for .22LR ammo right now.

We all should know that spree events happened in the past and will happen again in the future; so during the in-between times when prices are low and anti-gun legislation isn't a looming threat; that's when you're supposed to stock up on supplies like ammo and parts, buying them at lower prices for later use or sale at higher prices. Certainly I can't be the only one who knows that and does it.... am I?

Prices will go back down, they always do. No one is going to ban .22 ammo. If I had 25,000 rounds I'd sell all but a couple thousand. Profit margin is too much a temptation.
