Bike show bans guns and weapons

Postby kennymn on Sat Mar 23, 2013 6:04 pm

Went to Donnie Smith's bike show in St. Paul this morning and walked into the front door and the sign said " Donnie Smith's Bike Show bans all guns and weapons " . Walked around and found at least
2 venders selling knifes on there tables . On the way home I thought I wasn't allowed to carry a weapon in the front door but I could buy a weapon on inside from a vender , I thought that was very strange.

I bought my first Harley from Donnie smith in 1978 back in the days of the smith and fetrow (sp?) shop.

I just walked right on by... i wasnt totallay O.C but if you knew what to look for it was in clear sight, I had one of St Pauls finest eye me up but did say a word. I also seen brass knuckles for sale near one of the knife vendors... one booth in the swap shop was even selling BEER!! Good show as usual but around noonish it got super busy and was time to leave.

So what do you do with a knife you buy at the show, does the vendor need to walk outside to hand it to you?

Not all knives are weapons.

Do they? I just assumed the signs were for the non permit holders that were carrying guns that might be loaded. Since all the signs I see at gun shows are non compliant and I would think a gun show organizer would know the posting requirement under Minnesota statute, so the non compliant signs did not pertain to permit holders. :?

They apply to everyone. Below is from MWCA. I think crocodile allows dealers to carry, it's been a while though sice I had a table. But they still are posted at the door.

"No loaded firearms except for authorized security personnel!" From: http://www.mwca.org/

That always bugged me when I had tables. You would be walking to your car with a stack of cash and the show won't allow you to carry. I know plenty of dealers that carry anyway for that exact reason.

I guess I read that different, are they not referring to their meeting and this is directed at their members?

Or is this organization of so called gun experts so ill-informed that they do not have a clue as to Minnesota law pertaining to firearms and what wording would constitute a compliant posting under Minnesota lawf?

At the last Mankato show, one of my fellow Gun club members came and asked me about the posting, I told him it was not correct and he went to the promoter, who promptly threatened to throw him out. So Croc Productions post there sign to mean everyone - even thou it is not correct.

And I will stand by what I said earlier when this was discussed. I believe Jim knows what the compliant wording is, Crocodile post a non compliant sign and leaves it at that. But like a sleeping dog, maybe your friend went to the promoter and kicked the sleeping dog and got growled at for doing so. Next time you see you friend or fellow gun club member maybe you can suggest that he not kick the sleeping dog again. ;)

MWCA considers a gun show a meeting.

I assume that a lot of these events post signs, compliant or not, to try and cover their butts. If something were to happen, they could say we posted that it wasn't allowed. Whether or not that would hold any water in court it would atleast look better in the public eye. Not trying to say its a given and they are criminals, but I saw a plenty large variety of colors at the show. I would assume that not all clubs like eachother. Obviously nothing like that ended up happening. In other news, my buddy took 2nd place with his Dia de los Muertos bike. He was shooting for first, but I'm happy for him anyway.

There are more guns at the bike show than any range I've ever been on.

Usually the gang task force is upstairs with cameras and binoculars but I didn't see them this year.
