Obviously.

The point is that there is a cost to exercise a constitutional right. Think back to all the arguments you heard last november re: voter id.

I did not say I agree with all the rules-regulations and hoops we have to jump through to exercise our rights-----but I don't make the rules. There will ALWAYS be a cost to exercise our constitutional rights-----whether it's a $100.00 for a P2C or the lives and service of the men and women of the Armed Forces of The United States of America. ;)

A very good point. Freedom isn't free and neither are rights.

A "very good point"? Freedom isn't free BUT Rights most definitely are. Especially in America our RIGHTS ARE FREE, our Rights are not given by the government they are God given, with a capital G not some Greek fantasy or Terminator character e.g. gnothi seauton. No wonder why 4 pages were required to answer the OP.

By now I hope the legal requirements for purchasing a handgun in MN have been explained to the OP, sellers insist on a MN PTP or MN PTC because it's quicker than going to the sherrifs office and filling out whatever transfer papers there are, that's the law.
Teach a man to fish.....? Why not teach him how to make and sell the rods so he can make some money. Nobody wants to eat fish everyday.

James Brady.

True.

A more pertinent question would be "When purchasing a firearm through an ffl licensed dealer, I am required to go through a NICS check, so WHY do I need a PTP or PTC to buy a pistol or modern sporting rifle?"

GOCRA representatives could probably answer this better (as I have heard plblark comment on it a little bit) but I think it has to do with the mandatory waiting period without a PTP/PTC. For example: in Florida, you can buy a pistol if you have a CWP and walk out with it that day, but if you don't have a CWP you need to wait like 5 or 7 business days before you can pick it up - they have no permit to purchase. I believe that is a brady law requirement that is negated by the MN PTP/PTC requirement.

Rights are not free, or is freedom. They were paid for in many ways, most costly of all being the lives and blood lost to obtain and retain them.

As for Gnothi Seauton being a Terminator character? I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about. You must watch more Sci Fi than I do. Gnothi Seauton is from the Temple of Apollo and when translated, literally means "Know Thyself".

When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.
