Safe Queens - Loaner Forum

Postby OldmanFCSA on Tue May 21, 2013 5:15 am

This topic belongs in the Loaner Forum, but since its also under Marketplace Rules there, I chose to put it here to allow for input to Topic without violating MarketPlace Rules.

That said, How many of us have Safe Queens we seldom use but still don't want to sell.
Don't know how to say what I'm trying to put together in my head, so some random thoughts here.

Someone recently posted he was looking for a Ruger 7.5 Single-Action revolver. In a PM I offered him the use of mine knowing that it is not for sale.

I have other guns I know others would be interested in firing.
Do you also have Safe Queen you don't use, don't want to sell, but would loan out for others to use.

What are the legalities involved here?
Would a legal document need to be involved to keep both parties safe? I expect yes.

Extreme example: you loan a gun to someone, its used in a major crime, its returned to you as agreed, someone hints that you own the gun that may have been used to commit the crime, you're screwed !!!

But the thought as originally stated still has me interested - is anyone else interested.

Open up - think about it - let's discuss this -

I have no desire to own a 500S&W, but would like to shoot one.
I have a 444Marlin TC/Contender 14" pistol, anyone interested in shooting Metallic Sihlouette with it, or deer hunt?
I would like to compare a M14 against my AR-10, would anyone loan me one for an extended period. Not that many shots will be fired, but both will be fired equally.

OK - GO .............................................................

That's a cool idea and I think a lot of people here would be willing to do that. My suggestion though is to make an outing out of it. Go to the range with the guy who has the safe queen you want to borrow, ask him why he got it, what's cool about it, and then shoot it. Meeting people here and seeing their tastes in firearms first hand is just as cool as firing the gun itself usually.

I would agree with CarRacer in that if someone wanted to use one of my guns or if I wanted to use someone elses guns I'd be more comfortable meeting them at a range and shooting it there. That way ownership never transfers and you don't have to worry so much about the person either commiting a crime with your gun, "loosing" it, failing to return it, or damaging it.

I know just from personal opinion that I would let anyone fire one of my guns if they asked, but I would not give them the gun and say good luck, I would have to be there. I guess I'm not that trusting of a person :?

Maybe what we need is a range day where we could all meet, and bring our unusual safe queens to pass around and give others a try. We might have to list what odd balls we have though so people could find ammo for them since I don't think it's up to the owners to find and supply it...

I've often thought of a "range day" like that proposed, where we bring a choice assortment of our collection, and then shoot around to try out something we haven't before. Renting at Bill's gets expensive fast!

I'd be willing to try and set up an early evening out at Oakdale one of these upcoming weeks - with extending daylight, we can shoot until past 8pm now. Lemme take a look at the Calendar and throw some dates out there - just wanna make sure we don't conflict with other scheduled events out there.

I'll need a few more members to volunteer to host guests since I can bring in only 3 of my own.

IIRC, ya could schedule this as an "event" ... that way, yer on the calendar, so no one else takes yer range at the 11th hour ... and then there's no guest limit consideration.

IIRC, that's what they did fer the commie shoot last year (year 'fore?! :? )

I'm up for it. I've always wanted the chance to shoot a .22 rifle!

Great ideas everyone!

Never fails, I always get asked to bring my State Arms 50BMG Target Rifle.
And will, unless it sells before we have the event.

My AR-50 is currently totally dismantled awaiting a new barrel, stock and trigger mods.
When completed, it will be restricted to Target ammo only.

I am an OGC member also.

I always let people shoot my guns when they express an interest at the range. I wouldn't 'lend' a gun to someone out of my supervision unless I knew them well.
Remember, gun control is not about guns, it's about control.

No EFFEN way!! One safe queen I have is NIB and has never been fired. Beyond that, most of them are quite rare and irreplaceable. And last but not least, I sure as hell wouldn't let anybody shoot their handloads in my gun, and how would I know with the ammo shortage out there if the ammo ACTUALLY used was factory or not?? I let anybody shoot my 50GI, but that's my carry gun and it's been in a holster and carried for 8 years. (Still looks good - that black finish they put on those guns is thick and tough as hell!!)

The only "interesting" gun I have is my revolver (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=39254) but I suppose if anyone wants to shoot my 1970's Remington 1100 or a 9mm glock or shield they could try mine. I am also an OGC member.

Ok maybe not safe queens. But fun and unusual guns.
Here are what I consider some fun and unusual guns that either I'd like to shoot someday, or I think some people might like to shoot them. They're not all crazy hi buck guns, and most of us probably already own a bunch of these. But I'm sure a bunch of us have never shot them and have maybe always wanted to. Maybe just to say they have, or maybe they're considering a purchase.

Some sort of 50 caliber rifle
50 caliber revolver
Desert Eagle
41 action express ;)
Uzi
Mini Uzi
1919
Glock
Hi point
Gatling gun
AK47
.22 Gatling gun
1911
MAC 9 pistol
P90
AR15
Supressed... Anything....
Krink
Saiga shotgun
AA12 (well somebody might have one)
KSG
Lever action
LCP
LCR
LC9
Judge
Single action revolvers
Mosin Nagant
Nagant revolver
One of those high buck precision long range competition rifles
Snazzy race guns
MP5
Luger
Thompson Contender
Black powder rifles
Black powder pistols
Dummy grenade launched from like a Yugo SKS
AR pistol
300 BLK

The list goes on and on....
