Well Its official I just bought a New Building for Element Arms! If you know where the old Salida Building is (in Becker MN) That is the Future Home!!!!! We will triple in size and in 1-2 Years the indoor gun range will be put in! Pictures will be coming in soon! With a Great Grand Opening in September or October! This will be the Flag ship store lets hope more to come!

Word on the street is that Lakes Trading Co. in Forest Lake is also putting in an indoor range. I'm assuming that's already been discussed, but I'm just throwing it out there in a feeble attempt to get this thread back on track.

That's cool they have more ranges up in that area. I wish there were a few more south of the metro. Only one I know of is BPR. Yes, there's Gander and what not, but I don't want to pay by the hour or half hour, and they are expensive. What we really need is what was mentioned above for possibilities, a training center with CQC houses, etc, not just stand and fire at paper targets. That kind of practice has some value, but not really in a real-world situation. You can't even do holster work at indoor ranges, but judging by what I see go on at them, that may not be such a bad thing anyway.

I'd like to find a place that's reasonably priced for scenario training.

If you want to shoot on the move and do holster work, all while under the added stress of a timer, why don't you just look into IDPA or USPSA. There are tons of clubs in the metro area that have matches. You could shoot almost every night of the week if you wanted. For someone that can hit a pop-tart at 500 yards with a .45, you'll be a GM in no time

If competition shooting is not your thing, the QSI classes offer a wide variety of drills which include movement, reactive and steel targets, and using cover - for handguns, rifles, and shotguns. http://www.qsitraining.net

Yeah, that may be more my bag. Nothing against the competition stuff, and I should probably give it a shot some day; but it's competition, not survival. It's a different mindset.

Yep. 'muscle memory' for aiming and trigger control is just that. Your training your brain and body to do certain things without a conscious command. Plus in a competitive situation you get quantifiable feedback in target scores and timer readouts. Whether you care where you end up in the standings, you can learn what works- in terms of training and equipment, and what doesn't. And the stress of competition is about as much as you'll get to experience other than highly specialized training, or a violent encounter.
And don't discount that for most...it's fun.
