SN needs one letter and one number. Your name with a number before or after it would suffice.

JAKL Machine 80% Build Party

Postby jshuberg on Thu Jun 20, 2013 8:58 pm

When I called BATFE, they told me that letters were optional, and it requires at least one number in order for it to be a valid serial number.

Maybe the number was when trying to use a name. I know you can't do all letters.

I'd like to thank Driztan for organizing this weekend’s build party, and JAKL for opening up their shop for this event. Shannon and Lisa do a great job of making sure that everything works as it should, and Shannon takes great care to explain what (and why) is happening in each step of the process. It was as much a learning experience as it was fun. If another party is hosted in the future, I’d happily recommend it to anyone who wants to finish their own lower. (and I hope to be their too)

I hope these build parties are still going on, I read an article online by this evil liberal website called mother jones, where some goofball pretended to be a normal american and crashed a build party. Well it was upsetting to read about but it also reminded me that I still need to check that off my list, creating an AR from an 80% receiver. I got into guns in the past year right before all the madness and hope its not too late for me.

One of the things I saw listed in that ATF raid in CA was hosting build parties makes you a gun manufacturer...

JAKL Machine 80% Build Party

If that's their claim, it's a new claim. I contacted the St. Paul BATFE office and confirmed that a firearm "build party", where multiple individuals manufacture their own firearms is legal.

Only if the host is not also the retailer. The ATF is currently saying that would make the retailer actually a manufacturer. That would require them to have a dealers license and complete background checks on all his customers.
