Sam has enough money to carry a $3K gun. If he was worried about not getting it back, he could buy another one.

Gun Crafter's are very nice guns, but it's akin to driving a Mercedes when there are Bentley's and even more rare exotics out there. It's still just a production gun (albeit, a hand made one), and you can buy another just like it, pretty much any day of the week if you have the money roll to support such a purchase. I have no doubt, if you handed me $12K I could produce three of them within 24 hours (as long as the transfers weren't held up). Tractus has two Model 1's in stock - so they can't be that rare. ;)

Yeah, that's an insult. You have a real gun. Glocks are the iProduct of the gun world.

I almost asked the same, till I assumed if he can buy one, he can buy a replacement.

Either way, it is his choice ;)

eh? The XDm is a licensed version (or "copy" if you will) of the HS2000, not a Glock. Both have polymer frames, but so do a lot of guns these days.

So, in other words, the Zune to everyone's Ipod. hipsters love Zunes, even if they are more difficult to use(maintain in the case of the XD) not as easy to get accessories and support for, and when you do find cool stuff for em, it costs you more

It's ok. I can afford it.

As for accessories..

I bought 12 mags for it without an issue.
Got a custom holster for it for $129.00 without a problem either.
Even bought a 3rd party recoil rod from brass stacker without an issue.

I've not had any issues finding parts or accessories for it at all.

So, can I see a picture of your $3k "Glock?"

And, prior to the Glock, how many did? ;)

HK VP70. It was the first.

Agreed the Glock is just a copy of the VP70. :D

As for the 50 GI, the correct follow up to asking if it was a Glock is... is it a 9mm?

Very few people would know the difference between a Guncrafter and a Colt if you put them side by side on a table outside of superficial external traits. Unless you can see the business end (which Sam keeps stuffed in his pants), you'd have no outward reference to it being any different than a .45. And further more, if it was a 9mm, there's only a handful of people who'd notice the breech face was too narrow to be a .45 (.50GI uses the same case head as .45, so that's not even a tell if you can't see the muzzle).

So yeah, your 1911 is no different than the $450 Rock Island to anyone who isn't at least cognitive of what variations there are in handguns of the same style. In this case, she didn't even know it wasn't ugly enough to be a glock.

These are the people who will be on your jury should you ever face one. Keep that in mind. ;)

To the question of worrying about losing a $3K gun in a shooting, that is the LEAST of your problems, and you're probably looking at high 4 or low 5 figures for the defense unless you blow away a perp that's trying to kill a cop and it's caught on videotape. In that case, you walk, but in general pulling the trigger in real life is very, very expensive.

To that end, the question that I posed to myself was what gun would I like to own which also might minimize the chance of a perp actually throwing down and going for it, and which would also maximize my chance for survival?? I was carrying an EAA 10mm, which had 14+1 capacity, and is a very potent gun in its own right, but there are two things lacking. One is that you can't buy Crimson Trace lasergips for it, and who out there can tell the difference between a 9mm and a 10mm or 40, or even 45 from a quick glance at the muzzle? Certainly not your average street perp isn't going to know a 9mil from a Fotay, or really care while he's busy holding his gat sideways an all...

Given that, plus my penchant for exotic calibers, I decided that the 50GI was what I wanted, and if it would de-escalate one confrontation, it was essentially free to buy it. The look down the barrel is literally to die for, plus in the dark that little red dot is VERY intimidating, because wherever the dot is, that's where the bullet's going to wind up. Gun lasers were proven to be very effective in supermax prison riots years ago, and once even the most hardened inmate got that red dot on his body, he generally threw down his shank and quietly walked towards the security people and his cell.

And finally, the 50GI is on the top end of the lethality scale, without being something ridiculous like a .454 mountain gun, where you really have to worry about over penetration and muzzle blast indoors. The 50GI puts a 300 grain God Dot out the pipe at 880 FPS, nd while the ft-lbs are not spectacular, the Taylor knock-out factor which takes into account bullet diameter IS up there. TKO of 17.4 or so, which is the same a full house 44 mag 240 grain JHP hunting round.

Having said all that, this is what you're literally looking at if push comes to shove, and in my opinion if you still want to dance, there there's nothing else one could say or do or carry to stop that outcome, but this view could make a lot of people think twice!! :( :o  :?

The TV Glocks are special. They go "click, click, click" when out of ammo.

Lots of them have safeties and external hammers too.

Sam...we need a side pic. I don't mind looking down the barrel (online only), but I wanna see the whole picture.

I've shot that gun too. It's Niiiiiice.

The recoil isn't nearly as punishing as a mountain gun either.

My comments were all based on the situation that started this thread - in which if said woman were to look at your GI vs my Springfield (both holstered), she'd only note a difference of color between the two and perhaps the ambi safety, as I've got the Mrs' 1911 on me at present - and it has CTC grips too.

Kinda like not being able to tell the difference between a 700hp 383 stroker and a stock anemic 180hp 305 from the outward appearances. ;)
