I think things are loosening up. I actually bought 3 boxes of 45ACP off the shelf at my local Walmart Saturday. I think that's the first time in 2013 I've seen anything on the shelf. I also look at gunbot.net. Lot's of 45ACP in stock at online vendors. Prices on some of it is still a little high, but a couple months ago it didn't matter. The high price stuff would sell out in no time flat. Now it sits up there for days and weeks.

Another month or two and you might actually start seeing some price drops to move product.

Cabela's website is like a candy store tonight - plentiful .380, 9, and 45 acp without any noticeable limit on number of boxes!
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

Local stores up here are still bare... no ammo expect for shotgun and hunting rifle. Handgun ammo and defenseive rounds are non existence.

I don't understand why the biggest selling target ammo is FMJ (Pistol Calibers), when it is harder on your barrel than plated bullets? Personally, I've found the plated to be more accurate and believe that the softer copper plating does not wear the rifling as badly. If you don't shoot a great deal, this problably doesn't matter. But, if you shoot a lot, it could make your barrel last longer. I know you can't push the velocity as high with plated bullets, but in 9mm and .45 ACP it's not really a problem. Also, the plated are usually cheaper and easier to get (for those of us that reload).

Is my question or theory incorrect as to barrel/rifling wear?

I don't think you'd see a measurable difference in barrel wear between lead, plated lead or copper jacketed bullets.

Heat is what wears out barrels, which is why steel jacketed ammo is harder on them. Steel jackets don't seal the hot gasses as well.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Thanks, that does seem to be reasonable.

I was at BP FF yesterday and overheard this

Customer, (in a pissed off disappointed voice) got any 9,mm
Clerk, nope, were all out
Customer, well you had some last week
Clerk, yep but its all gone
Customer, what do mean
Clerk, its all gone
Customer, are you sure
Clerk, yep
Customer, can you check
Clerk, I'm positive were out
Customer, (really pissed at this point) ARE YOU SURE
Clerk, yes I'm sure

I laughed and walked away, the guy just kept asking like it would magically appear, what a D Bag.

Fleet Farm in Blaine Sunday, July 14th....decent supply of most any rifle caliber, including .223 (if you want to pay $19 a box of 20). But NO rimfire of any kind and NO pistol ammo save for one brand of .40 S&W and Federal .44 mag. LOTS and LOTS of empty shelf space. However, they had AKs and and a few ARs in the racks.

Lots of 5.56 and some .223, and some 9mm +p at the Cabela's in Rogers. More PMAGS then you could shake a stick at....decent amount of ARs in stock. Didn't look for rimfire.

Boss just bought a M&P9 from Glenn's, and they have plenty of ammo in stock. They also have AR-15 coming out of the demon hole, and plenty of 5.56mm with no limits on ammo purchases. Critical duty $20.99/25rd box. Blazer Brass 9mm $14.99/50rd box.
