MN resident moving to Virginia

Postby OldmanFCSA on Sun Jul 14, 2013 9:37 pm

My daughter, a MN resident and legal owner of several firearms, is moving to Blacksburg Virginia (V-Tech) soon and wants to take two rifles and two revolvers.

What restrictions, if any, are to be applied to legal transport, possession, storage, etc., in her rental house in Blacksburg, VA. I tried Google, but must not know how to search the subject correctly.

Being a present resident of Virginia myself.....

Virginia is pretty gun friendly. No permit required for open carry. Shall issue for carry permit. Even a Hunter Safety course is acceptable to meet the "training" requirement of carry permit.

For transport, cased and loaded is apparently OK in Virginia... but not some of the surrounding states. Better to unload and case.

Important note: DON'T TAKE THEM TO D.C.!!!!!!

Machine guns and suppressors ok!

Airguns allowed in your yard (state law).

Another important note: DON'T TAKE THEM TO D.C.!!!!!!

Most important note: DON'T TAKE THEM TO D.C.!!!!!! (Freeway-wise, this is possible to do by accident)

I grew up in Maryland, next door to VA. That far away from DC, folks were very comfortable with guns back when I lived out there. Even more so in WV. The bad news is that was 35 years ago.
