I've built a little over 10 AR10 and 15 lowers, and the only tools I used were a hammer, 2 punches, needlenose pliers, allen wrenches, a razor blade and the one tool you may not have yet, the armorers wrench.

Roll pin punches, starter punches and arbor presses are luxuries but not needed....

By the way Heffay... When you're ready to split up that plant, let me know. I'll bring over my garden shovel.

I hear what you say.. the first lower I only used what i could find laying around, kitchen knife for the springs. Small hammer, pliers, and a small round piece of metal that was small enough in diameter but long enough to hit. After hitting my fingers and scraping the tape I put on the lower to make sure I didn't scratch the lower, I got it done. Then I spent $20 on a press and got a free flashlight at Harbor Freight and I never looked back on the many lowers since.

I need those same lessons. How do we make such things happen. My "Jedi mind trick" skills aren't really good.

Just a note: While being disabled and medically retired really sucks sometimes, it does have some advantages. One being, I am usually the only one home everyday when the delivery trucks (USPS, FedEx, UPS etc) arrive. And, unless very heavu (like boxes of bullets) I get to bring the boxes in and can have all the "evidence" cleaned up before the wife gets home. Unfortunately, she now tele-commutes quite a bit and it's getting harder to "slip" new stuff under her nose. I am trying to get her bosses email or phone number, so I can suggest he has her work from her office more frequently, or at least get him to insist she come in, on the days I'm expecting a new shipment. :bolt:

I have to resort to trade-offs. As soon as she gets a box at the door, I am on Midway placing my order :P
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

Brownells and Midway need to have girly gift stuff. Then when they catch your package you can whip out "her" item and if she catches the other stuff just say you added those to save on shipping.

So I went to AT yesterday to get some fresh air... I should have known I was gonna end up walking with a few goodies. Here they are.

And into the receiver they went

As of now the lower is almost complete, I still need to figure out a stock for it. I am thinking maybe a LaRue Tactical RAT would be nice.

Ahhh speaking of new things our second baby was born sunday, so double happy day.

Consider a BADASS. Very positive selector movement, multiple configurations possible.

I generally disengage the safety with my thumb, re-engage it with trigger finger. I prefer the crank lever on the left side and stubby on the right.

So here is an update. I finally got a forward assist and an ejection port cover from Atomic Tactical, they have a good price for the combo. The install was fairly easy, I wish I had a 3rd hand to make the fwd assist easier to install but it wasnt a big deal

I might have gotten too excited and also got 40rnds of Winchester 5.56 from fleet farm and a Mag Pul Gen 3 magazine from AT. I also have a smoked magazine that samginko gifted me, I am liking that better. I the window marker on the Mag Pul can be confusing and it doesn't seem that accurate. Good idea, but I am not sold on it.

Lancer mags make too much noise for my taste. They're like legos: loudest plastic known to man. Pmags are quieter than steel or aluminum mags.

The window markings are quite accurate, the line on the spring corresponds to the number along the window.
