Dylan, I think you're on the right track by renting a few. Shooting before buying has helped me a ton.

I prefer .22 pistols for learning, plinking and all-around fun. Even if it's not your first gun, leave room in your future for a .22 of some kind.

I say pick an all metal gun first, to work out that "recoil sensitivity" many Glock owners complaint about :twisted:
