How do you store extra magazines?

Do you store your extra magazines loaded or unloaded? Would storing them loaded could cause a future spring failure?

I have had mags that were loaded for years with no issues when I shoot them. Modern spring wear out from repeated compression and extension.

Loaded... But loaded light. One or two shy of a full mag. That goes for all my G17 AK and AR mags. It's the constant cycling that wears out the springs, not the constant compression.

An empty mag is as useful as an empty chamber. One's a whole lot easier to correct than the other.

Last year I was going thru some of my stuff and found a loaded 1911 mag that I had left there 21 years ago, the spring is still good as new, I loaded it back up and put it away again.

SD stay loaded, others are loaded minus one.

The mag in the carry gun is loaded. Extra mags for range trips are left unloaded in a drawer. Extra extra mags are left in the original packaging.

I prefer to have several fresh unused mags in packaging incase a current one becomes unreliable/gets damaged/lost. It helps keep them organized.

Tip for some of the noobies: Get a silver sharpie and number all your mags. That way you can troubleshoot a mag if you keep having failures.

It's ok... I numbered mine using pig Latin. I think we're inefay.

Extras? As in I don't need them right now? They're all dumped in an old range bag, a shoebox, or in the GLOCK tupperware.

Ready magazines are stored loaded: two for my carry pistol, two for my AR and 9 rounds in my Mossberg 590.

I don't believe any of the BS about springs. Load them up.
