Especially with how minimal the chances are they will ever have to interact with a permit holder.

A few weeks ago, there was a senior DPS official testifying to a joint committee at the capitol who butchered the carry law. I corrected him, and afterwords shook his hand and told him. "As an instructor, I only have to be an expert on 5 pages of the law, on just anything else you'd have me at an extreme disadvantage." To which he smiled, and we had a nice conversation.

That being said, I don't hold ignorance against them, but they better have the humility to admit when they are not sure.

If people that have a permit to carry I would expect them to know the difference. Calling it conceal and carry is danger up ahead. I don't know about you but when I'm in a store looking on the bottom shelf for that last box of cci mini mags and my shirt rides up and exposes my weapon I'm glad I'm not at risk for having my permit to carry taken away from me because it wasn't totally concealed.other states you'd be ****. Stop the ignorance or this will become our reality.

^^^THIS. Expecting the police to know the minutia of every carry law when one doesn't understand the basics of their home state laws, and why they are important- is a bit hypocritical, to say the least.

Documentation is your friend. I have a what I refer to as a "Barney Fife Pack". It has all of my paperwork - copies of NFA documents, BATFE determination letters, copies of my trust documents, copies of state and federal statutes regarding machine guns, my Capitol notification letter, etc. etc. I have a copy in my gun safe, in my range bag, in my gun case, in my car, in my desk at work. You get the idea.

Don't let your paperwork become outdated. The sooner that you can demonstrate that you are not a criminal, but have your ducks in a row and are on the right side of the law, the sooner that an uncomfortable encounter with law enforcement can be resolved.

Hmmm....I can see keeping copies of relevant statutes at the ready, but all my documentation? I'm not sure I'd want a curious cop to have the opportunity to just rifle through the sum of my registrations, NFA etc etc and thereby have the "authorities" the opportunity to know about the extent of my firearms "interest". I envision a traffic stop, carry question, then him asking "what's all that? Let me see all those papers" as I'm looking for the right statute copy to educate him with. When he sees all the dangerous NFA stuff I own, he might decide I'm a militia member from eastern Minnesota and take me downtown to meet the DA with me ending up on some kind of list.
