I did quit the Sheriffs Dept two years ago so now I can't carry under HR 218.

Don't take it too hard, I assumed this thread would go to the dogs once I saw you had less than 10 posts, and you typed "BOL"

It probably still will....

If you wouldn't have typed those three little letters, nobody would be giving you a hard time. This place is funny some times. You're gonna have to get used to it. Get a thick skin... People here love to start arguments.

BTW... Welcome to the madness.

There was a guy who is a friend of mine who I let hunt deer on my property, and his truck was on my property yesterday. You better check REAL good about hunting season zones and when the seasons start. Getting busted for carrying without the right permit is trivial to walking around with a hunting gun with no license and having the DNR catch you. You gun and truck will disappear, and you'll be making little rocks out of big ones in Sandstone for 10 years!!

I'm not worried about duche bags, like I said I was a deputy sheriff for years. Is there some anti prepper movement up in MN or on this forum? I just kinda figured that most fire arms owners believe in preparedness at least on some fundamental level. Thanks for the welcome.

Well unless MN is some weird black hole of legal precedence I'm not worried about being suspected of poaching or hunting w/o a license. It be difficult to find reasonable suspicion when I won't be wearing camo, will be carrying around a chainsaw and tools most of the day, and listening to a radio. My guess is someone hunting with a license would try to be pretty quiet, while someone without a license would be like a ninja. I'll be rocking to Led Zepplin, clearing land, and building some temporary structures to store tools and supplies. And if I can carry a handgun on private property the rifle will be in my tent unless we do some shooting in our down time.

Nope, just a strict liability crime:

97b.041 wrote:(a) A person may not possess a firearm or ammunition outdoors during the period beginning the fifth day before the open firearms season and ending the second day after the close of the season within an area where deer may be taken by a firearm, except:

(2) an unloaded firearm that is in a case or in a closed trunk of a motor vehicle;
(3) a shotgun and shells containing No. 4 buckshot or smaller diameter lead shot or steel shot;
(4) a handgun or rifle capable of firing only rimfire cartridges of .17 and .22 caliber, including .22 magnum caliber cartridges;
(5) handguns possessed by a person authorized to carry a handgun under sections 624.714 and 624.715 for the purpose authorized; and
(6) on a target range operated under a permit from the commissioner.
(b) This section does not apply during an open firearms season in an area where deer may be taken only by muzzleloader, except that muzzle-loading firearms lawful for the taking of deer may be possessed only by persons with a valid license to take deer by muzzleloader during the muzzleloader season. While muzzleloader hunting, a person with a valid license to take deer by muzzleloader may not possess a firearm other than:
(1) a muzzleloader that is legal for taking deer under section 97B.031, subdivision 1; and
(2) a firearm as described in paragraph (a), clauses (2) to (5).

Clearly building a super secret end of the world fort requires an AR and trumps this silly law

You should probably read what Seismic Sam wrote and Mormprepr's response like 2 posts up. Yup. Relevant.

Well with all due respect to our local reloading troll, let me quote him...

Read the manual. The firearms season does not open until Nov 9th. So what ever this guy was hunting was not the firearms deer season and not relevant to the posted regulation.

Did OP post when he would be here and how long he would be staying? I only saw that his permit wouldn't be here in time. I guess I just figured this gentleman, who seems to want to rtfm, would like to be fully aware of his potential legal pitfalls.

So would not the better response be, "perfectly legal to carry on private property with the landowner's permission except for this crazy little law we have surrounding the firearms deer season." ? We can make the simplest question seem like a supreme court case on this forum.

Thank you to those that are trying to help. I don't know why but I figured the gun forum here would be less hostile/full of pompous ass clowns than in my home state. I will be there mid sept. so i dont believe the deer season law would effect me. And as far as needing an AR, the property is miles from any other houses let alone towns. The last time my uncle was up there he said there was bear scat everywhere and they saw several moose. I don't know about you operators, but I'd rather have an AR with at least a 30rnd mag if yogi or bull winkle decide to drop in and take offense to me being on their turf.
