What to do this winter.....

I have to put a new head gasket in a 53' Ford JUbilee.

Drain/change filter/fill all fluids on other equipment.

Finish barn.

Play with horses.

Play with guns.

Might get a job if I get bored.

Re-organize reloading room, build another reloading bench specifically for Dillon reload equipment, fix hot plumbing to new brass wash tumble area (hot water line broke off under con rete floor), clean machines and shop area, re-organize so I can find what I know I have somewhere, Reload, Reload, & RELOAD. 50BMG rifles need attention for next year. Need to teach BigDog58 how to work 50 brass for match shooting, RELOAD, RELOAD, RELOAD. SHOOT.

Go over and learn proper way to prepare 50 BMG Brass with Oldman.


I will also be going out to shoot at Rainbow. Sitting in my wheelchair on top of snow isn't too bad. Qualcorp and I didn't let snow stop us this spring and as long as temps are above 30 we'll be shooting. Going to drag Thuneroussilence out with us. The "Brisk" fresh air will do him good.

Practice my reloading and load up extra ammo for next spring/summer

The tricky part is usually getting the stupid ice auger started so you can pop a hole in the ice in which to float your beers so they stay nice and cold while you sit around talking about boobs & politics, losing badly at poker/crazy 8's, eating deer sticks and trying to make word sounds with farts.

Maybe I am doing it wrong but I don't recall catching a fish in the last half dozen trips, though it's likely the methane rich atmosphere in the shelter was spoiling the bait and keeping the fish from biting.

PBR winter league e/o Thursday! - I know, indoor paper targets but it gives me a little fix.

I like to take my dog out walking at the off-leash park, snowmobile, ice fish...and practice cold weather pistol shooting at OGC now that I am a member.

Both on my wishlist this year, I will say horse and hunt is a wonderful time as well. Just gotta dress warm, otherwise lots of exercise, a lot of fun, and their range sure makes you a better shooter.

The way it looks now I'll be in Colorado from Jan 1 through April 30. Hoping to get a day or two of skiing, but it looks like I'll be working 12 hrs a day for 6 or 7 days a week.

I was hoping to finish the shop and get it heated and air conditioned.

If I was here at home I'd be ice fishing as much as possible. I usually have the same issues with methane and no fish. Most times a wet foot happens or a melted jacket or fish house. Gotta love/hate the 10" auger.

At least the additional income may let me buy a 50 and the reloading gear to boot.

Horse and Hunt is open year round. I have shot sporting clays standing on snow more than in the summer.

Off topic but, I assume that that pistol is still too tame for Bear? Been watching a LOT of reality shows they're filming in Alaska and big bear revolvers are everywhere. Bear revolvers seem to start at 44 Magnum and go up.

Loading up a bunch of pistol ammo so I can go to the range more often. Use my gun dealers outdoor range until the snow gets to deep to get to the targets. He may have a 4 lane indoor pistol range built by this winter so maybe some indoor paper punching. Squirrels on the warmer days, rabbits too until the snow gets to deep again to get through without snow shoes.

I am currently in week 3 of my annual self-imposed, season-end, 1-month shooting moratorium. On November 4th I will get back to 3x week rotation of standing practice with 10m air rifle, and prone slow fire practice with Palma rifle and Rika trainer. Starting last weekend in November, will shoot live fire every Saturday at smallbore prone and HP leagues. Pretty much all live fire practice will be prone this winter in preparation for trip to Phoenix in February for the Berger SW Long Range Nationals. 2014 is going to be all about prone shooting for me.

Also have lots of brass to prep and ammo to load, so I'll need to make provisions to temporirarily move all brass prep gear in from the garage...
