As an Eagan resident, I am very pleased that my PD took care of this so quickly.

Thanks yukonjasper!

In the future, waving the flag of 'DOMESTIC VIOLENCE' will get some bureaucrats to prick up their ears.

Such as ....'A woman purchasing a firearm for protection from an abusive ex-husband / boyfriend / pimp would be identified as the ex could know she lived in Eagan but not exactly where and making this info public would aid her stalker.

One thing I've learned in the last 10 years of gun rights activism: you don't always have to bash a public official over the head with a 2x4. Sometimes you can just give him a friendly tap on the shoulder and explain the issue, expressing your full confidence that he will, of course, want to do the right thing, being such a fine upstanding public servant as he is. And sometimes, it works.

When it does, the official walks away from the incident thinking that you did him a solid -- didn't try to jack him up, but just reminded him what he meant to do anyway. And he sees you as someone worth listening to next time.

And when it doesn't work, you can then swing that metaphorical 2x4 with gusto, knowing that you tried, and the bastard can't say you didn't warn him -- in fact, you offered to help him save himself!

That's how we got the DNR, way back in 2005, to acknowledge that we could carry in state parks. It's how we got the Rochester City Council, in 2007, to fix their out-of-date city ordinances that forbid carrying a gun in city parks. It's how we got Cub Foods, this January, to rescind their ban on open carry in their corporate-owned stores. We talked quietly and rationally with them. Granted, we also found smart, reasonable people in those places, which isn't always the case, but it is more often than you might think.

It's also how we try to deal with state representatives who make silly mistakes. We give them an opportunity to do the right thing...or suffer the consequences of their own decisions. And if they suffer the consequences, sometimes they learn from their scars, and become allies the next time around. I've watched it happen!

So don't jump right to boycotts, rallies and marches, or torches and pitchforks. Sometimes you can make a change and gain an ally at the same time. It's always worth a try.
