Glock 42

Postby Erud on Mon Feb 03, 2014 9:23 pm

JP, I think the main point here is that apples, oranges, or whatever, the G42 is a .380 in a size where there are good 9mm's and .40's to be had.

I mostly carry a PM40 and it is a great pistol that I have come to trust completely. It's smaller than the 42, and packs a lot more punch. I also have a P380 for times when I just can't carry anything else. It's tiny, like I want a .380 to be. That's the trade-off that occasionally makes a .380 worthwhile. The laws of physics prevent the .380 from being a very effective man-stopper compared to most any other pistol cartridge, so if I'm going to carry a gun big enough to hold 9 or 40, it will be chambered in 9 or 40. Cost is not a major factor for me in a defensive handgun.

I am not a Glock hater, I currently have 4 of them and have owned at least a dozen over the years. They make good, reliable pistols - I just don't really see the point of this one.

So it looks like nothing seems to like the PMC 90 gr RN. But this could be a batch problem. I am to lazy to set up the chrono but one shooting with me says the PMC seems wimpy. I was not sure I felt that. I am getting 4 more boxes tonight maybe a different batch will solve the problem. I still have no problems with my snifty hot reloads 95 grn or Magtech at all. What I still say, is I shot about 4 boxes through it today and my hand feels fine it is a comfortable gun to shoot the 42 that is. .

I had a few hundred rounds of the PMC bronze that ran like a knife through butter in my beretta cheetah. Had some to run through my glock 42 (50) all without any malfunction. Same with Herters, selliers, blazer brass, umc (one other I forgot) and the corbons. The only thing that wouldn't run through the 42 was the barnes xtp self defense rounds. 80 grain. The gen 4 recoil spring system probably needed more umphhh.

This is an interesting article, my friends wife is a surgeon she has amazing things to say about .22lR GSW gun shot wounds. But this is not about 22LR go to this link, I thought this was interesting.

If Gabby Gifford was shot with a .22LR instead of a 9mm it is highly probable that she would be dead right now I read an article done by a CSI women as to that. I do not tell people to carry .22LR as their protection gun, but I do tell them to carry what you can hit rapid fire and still group. Misses rarely stop a gun fight as well as bad hits.

I have shot the hell out of my 42 as have many of my students. Did have some fail to feeds and ejects. Here is what I found interesting. Always ammo, in that if we swapped to another brand it stopped and back to it, it did it again. But here an interesting twist. In 3 cases I was able to get another batch codded box and it did not do it again. Once the person trained with it with me and had 3 boxes of speer law man. He happened to have 2 different batch codes. One was a problem and the other worked fine. I have found that this gun likes hot ammo with out a doubt. I also found that Girls have more problems with type 2's and is immediately solved with raising the strong elbow and better grip. All in all in more than a thousand rounds I have had I think 23 malfunctions. It did not like PMC, but that changed with another batch lot from Gander. It worked perfect with personal protection ammo and that is all that really matters I think any way. Its in on me most all the time now. :ugeek:

I have a little over 1200 rounds without any failures. The only exception is the barnes all copper tac-xpd 80gr round. Glock 42 will NOT cycle with that round. Will fire but slide remains closed with case inside. Not long after I saw a YouTube video where someone else discovered the same thing. Solutions=Cor Bon.
