You can only collect unemployment if your termination was due to no fault of your own. If they terminate you due to violation of a company policy they have grounds to deny your unemployment benefits.

So then it would go back to my point on the verbiage and what is legally and technically correct within Minnesota. Also, "company policy" many times is vague in written form. I've also (as a customer) called a company I'm doing business with and been met with the bs answer "Well, it's "company policy" sir." At that point, I ask for a written copy of it and am denied, ignored, etc. More bs, more avoidance. "It's "company policy" is a great blocker.

Guess in my case we were given the the "company policy" (aka "employee handbook") and had to sign a piece of paper saying we received it, will abide by it, etc. And sadly it was in there that 'dangerous weapons' were prohibited from company grounds. Now we got bought out by a large corporation. Didn't get similar paperwork this time, but didn't take long to find it in the 'Standards of Conduct' document posted on the intranet.

The following list is not all-inclusive, but illustrates conduct that will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including immediate termination of employment.

I am fortunate to work for a company that allows carry at work, I will be taking the owner and his two daughters to the range next week, he is now looking at purchasing a pistol.

My work doesn't allow carry... but that doesn't stop the sales manager from carrying 24/7... me and my boss leave our guns locked in our trucks and carry around empty kydex holsters...

I work at a district hospital. As a government entity, they are prohibited from banning guns on the premises. There is nothing in the rules that I have to live by that prohibits carrying on the job. OTOH, the very significant inconvenience of carrying a gun while wearing scrubs and a white coat doesn't come close to being worth it considering the liklihood of needing it.

Unfortunately there is NO chance that I'd be allowed to carry on the job.

My former employer of 12.5 years issued a new policy immediately after passage of the MCPPA that forbade employees from carrying a firearm anywhere in the course or scope of employment. For purposes of my work in the office I abided by that rule for the most part. There were some exceptions where certain things had happened/were happening that made me uneasy and I carried deeply concealed a handful of times.

When I traveled for work, however, was a much different story. I frequently spent up to 2 weeks out by myself, and drove 1-2k miles in that period of time in addition to the specific work I was doing. With rare exception I would bring a handgun with me and carry it concealed (or openly in the company vehicle while driving long distances) in the places I was able to do so. Even in the places I couldn't carry in public, at least I was able to have something for protection in my hotel room.

As I was usually flying to begin and end my trips this made for some interesting flight check-ins at various airports, like the time a Northwest agent in Sacramento called airport police and the TSA when I told her I needed to check a bag with a firearm. She was positive that it was "illegal to have a handgun in California" <facepalm>. The TSA folks were pretty good about things with a few exceptions. The only places trips I wouldn't bring one were if I was going to be spending any time in DC, NYC, or Chicago. I had no interest in getting a felony sheet for mere possession, even if those were the places I figured I'd be most likely to need it.

Anywho, bottom line: What my employer never found out never hurt them or me. As someone mentioned previously, if I ever had to used it, I figured looking for a new job would be OK since I would be alive to actually do so.

I wonder how many Accent Signage employees wish they'd been carrying that day.

Since crime/criminals don't make appointments.......... Carrying a gun doesn't guarantee that you'll live through such an event, but it does give you the option and ability to defend yourself vs not. I can ALWAYS get another job or create a business for income.
