You will not believe this!

Remember that ending scene out of Indiana Jones where the Ark of the Covenant is boxed up and wheeled through an endless government warehouse?

...It's called the Center of Military History.

FWIW, Fort Belvoir is right around the corner from Mt. Vernon. Drove right by the gates on the way...

and from Wikipedia
Fort Belvoir serves as the headquarters for the Defense Logistics Agency, the Defense Acquisition University, the Defense Contract Audit Agency, the Defense Technical Information Center, the United States Army Intelligence and Security Command, the United States Army Military Intelligence Readiness Command, the Missile Defense Agency, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, all agencies of the United States Department of Defense.
Fort Belvoir is home to the Virginia National Guard's 29th Infantry Division (Light) and elements of ten Army Major Commands; nineteen different agencies and direct reporting units of the Department of Army; eight elements of the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard; and twenty-six Department of Defense agencies. Also located here are the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power), the Military District of Washington's 12th Aviation Battalion which provides rotary-wing movement to the DoD and Congress, a Marine Corps detachment, a United States Air Force activity, United States Army Audit Agency, and an agency from the Department of the Treasury. In addition, Fort Belvoir is home to National Reconnaissance Office's (NRO) Aerospace Data Facility, East (ADF-E).

Very interesting!

:thankyou: for posting.

One of the comments suggested putting photos on a DVD and selling them to raise money for the museum.
Why not?
It's a shame to have all that history just locked away, in the dark.

That DVD suggestion was great! You don't have to show EVERYTHING but show some of the highlights and the backstory of some of the displays, along with a bit of history of how the collection came to be. Price it reasonable and you could raise a bunch of money towards a museum and actually letting the public see this, and instill some renewed pride in being an American!

People would see this and whet their appetite to see more. How many visit DC each year? Fort Belvoir is only 30 minutes away.
