One thing that is overlooked is the shoulder holster, and for guys this doesn't work very well. Relative to arm length, men's rib cages are pretty broad, and reaching all the way over to the other side is damn near impossible for me. Women, on the other hand, have rib cages that are much narrower than their arm length, so they can easily reach across to grab the gun. In addition, women have the misdirection option that they can and do use on men every day of their lives, and they can dress however they want to make men look at certain places. Add a Victoria's Secret bra to a blouse with the right number of buttons undone, and a woman could have a DE 50 in a shoulder holster and no guy would EVER see it. Seriously!

There are many, many, many options for concealed carry holsters. In fact, there are SO many, it illustrates clearly that there is no "best" option. You spoke of shoulder holsters. That's been considered in my house and discarded by my wife. OTOH, I have found relatively recently that the 5.11 Holster Shirt works great for me carrying a PPS. Very unobtrusive, extremely comfortable, and allows carry in circumstances where it would otherwise be impossible. While wearing hospital scrubs, for example. The compromise is that under a buttoned or tucked-in shirt, access is delayed, but it is certainly better than nothing and IMHO far more practical and accessible than an ankle holster.

My PK380 rides inside my waistband or in a flashbang holster, sometimes a pocket.

Why - with most assaults on women being stealing of their purses, trying to access the gun would be futile, and gun would be lost to be used on someone else.

Why don't we (instructors - husbands - friends) teach personal carry options on-the-body ?
Be able to retain the firearm if your purse is stolen, or if you are thrown to the ground, or ................
Then be able to access it for proper usage as need is required.

No, please explain.

Never taken the NRA "Personal Protection Outside the Home" class have you?

Because the ppoth class discusses this issue. Both off and on body carry for women.

It's interesting the information that is available from the NRA courses that people rarely see available.

Mrs. tman dismisses the faliaphotography on- body stuff as incompatible with her body type. A lot of waist-level carry options end up with gun butts pushing and jabbing to the ribs.

My mom has a carry purse she really likes to carry her 380 in. Her favorite thing is the velcro access to the gun compartment means she can put her hand in, grab the grip and index a finger all inside the purse without alerting or alarming anyone. If someone comes too near her she could be pointing it right at them and nobody would see anything but a little old lady maybe gripping her purse a little tighter.

Women's clothing is cut to fit. Most women have smaller waists than hips. It has worked really well for me to buy men's jeans that fit in the behind and are too big in the waist. I carry a WC Bill Wilson Carry 1911 IWB without issues, or a Glock 26 IWB without issues. This requires something un-tucked but there are lots of cute vests that can go over a pretty blouse.

As it gets hotter outside the Ruger LCP will go into a shorts pocket.

Sam thanks for the plug! OGC's Intro to Firearms for women was a huge success last weekend and has generated a lot of women signing up for additional instruction. By the end of the day I had to keep a close eye on a Springfield MCO Govt. 1911 that has been worked over by SACS. Women by and large love 1911's. This one has a flashlight on it and they thought that was pretty cool.

I was one of the guys doing spring cleanup @ OGC on Saturday during the women's event.
Spoke with many of the attendees coming off the trap range.. Lots of smiles and enthusiasm. I wandered down to the pistol shooting with the intention of meeting you and introducing myself. But it was pretty busy at the time and I didn't want to interrupt the obvious good times.
Congratulations on what appeared to be a well run and successful event

Interesting choice for a first carry gun. Most men don't choose a pistol that must be carried cocked and locked as their first carry piece. Even less women are that comfortable. Good luck, hope she never needs it!!! :)

If she does decide to go the purse route, this is one of my wife's favorite sites.

Purse, shoulder holster, holster shirt, ankle holster, pants pocket, back pack, fanny pack, Smart Carry.

So...is she pretty committed to concealed carry, or is this something she's doing to appease you? It makes a difference because if she's not really committed, she's going to need a method of carry that's simple and non-complicated. If it's too elaborate, like finding clothing to conceal a shoulder holster or pants to cover an ankle holster, she's less likely to do it unless she's a True Believer .

I bought this style for my PK380 http://www.sneakypeteholsters.com/sig-p ... belt-clip/ I am used to having a cell case clipped to a pocket, or to my purse, or a coat pocket so it worked well.
