Tip down for cartridges with FMJ or plated projectiles, since they're easier to grab by the rim; tip up for the heavier revolver cartridges with exposed lead nose projectiles to prevent damage to the tips.

The real issue for me is which way do I store my green pellets.

Ammo, bullet down, except for some 5.7 and .223

Down to allow for verification of primer seating depth and then they are all inverted for easy identification of the bullet type. Or for those of us without OCD, just dump them all into a zip-loc bag which is weighed for an approximate round count.

I toss my ammo in 30Lbs strawberry topping buckets from DQ. If its just a 1000 rounds or so I use Folgers cans. The red ones. No decaf Folgers cans for my ammo!

Tip down in reused ammo trays, or rolling loose in the ammo cans from laxammo

Tip down so you can pull them out of the box easier if they stick. Tip up your fingers can slide right off the bullet.

Tip down. Impossible to grab one out if tip up. But it does look better :D

I don't know what a strawberry topping bucket looks like, but I use 5 gal. pails and folgers cans. The plastic ones from Sam's Club are big enough for a very generous range session.
I got nothin'

You store your green pellets in your cheeks, ya beady eyed rodents, and pack 'em in there until you look like you've got the mumps!!

I call dibs on Rodentman's Coonan!! The rest of you can fight over his Smith 500 and 460.

Good thing I didn't buy that 38 Casull or everyone would be beating at my door.

Sam, you don't want the GI Model 4?

That's a Plano box, piece of crap if you ask me. I bought one and had the same issue. Tip up just didn't feel safe and tougher to grab. Tip down the box doesn't work at all.

Same as factory ammo, tip down.

Tip up

Or tip down

If you're buying factory ammo, why not just leave it in the boxes it came in?
