NRA museum in Fairfax VA

Been meaning to post this for few weeks. If you find yourself in the DC area, I highly recommend a stop in the NRA museum just outside DC. Very well done, more guns to drool over than I can shake a stick at, and the friendliest museum you will ever go to. Took the family there over the Easter weekend and the NRA was the highlight of the trip. Had security run be down when I left because he saw me taking a copy of every gun magazine they had on the rack for trip home (except American Rifleman because I already get that one with my membership, I should clarify I am talking about publications here ;) ). The security desk had just received the latest issue of one mag and he wanted to make sure I got it before I left.

Later I think I found my new carry gun at the Bull Run battle field.

Would second H&H's recommendation. I was there in February and it was really neat to see the different periods of guns. A lot of early blackpowder historical arms. It gave me a better apreciation of the work and craftsmanship in the early days. They even had a section on movie guns. FYI, it is in the lower level of an office building with limited signage. Now if they could just open a CMP store there...

I was also there around Easter weekend, and I have to recommend the museum as well. My favorite of all the sites my wife and I saw in the DC area.

Been a couple of years, since I visited, so I don't know if it is still there, but the "Guns of Hollywood" display was fun too! Some truly unique firearms on display... anyone remember "tround" guns? Also learned my air pistol was a "museum piece"! :D

Oh, and it is free too. There is also a gun range downstairs (not free).

The National Museum of the Marine Corp is a worthwhile stop too.

A bit off-topic, if you are into aircraft, the Udvar-Hazy Center is great too! Where else are you going to see an SR-71, a space shuttle, and the Enola Gay all in one place!.

Yup Guns of Hollywood are on display and really cool, my favorites though included the authentic wheellock from off of the mayflower and the full auto 16 shot matchlock :D (went of Roman candle style)
