Why did we turn down use of our range by cabelas instructors when we could have leveraged that into some great marketing? Buy a gun at Cabelas and get 1/2 off range pass to OGC to sight it in! We could have had a really good feeder for new shooters there.

I can see it now. " Buy a gun at Cabelas, get 1/2 off a range pass and put your name on our (3 year) waiting list" would be a great marketing strategy to attract new shooters.

I stopped by Cabelas today and was told at the door that only their club members could enter. Like Groucho Marx, I refuse to join a club that would have me as a member.

That was the early preview for the Cabela's credit card holders. The grand opening is Thursday. There weren't any special deals for card holders. At least not that I saw.

The 500 round boxes of Blazer .22 were $27.99 each. By my math that is $2.80 per 50.

I was there around 4pm after my physical therapy session. They said to come back in the morning for more ammo. They were getting shipments every day for the grand opening. (which is code for "we have pallets of what you want in back but kiss off")

I'm actually set for .22lr for the foreseeable future. I've been trying to buy for friends when it's available. Same with powder.

I just got back from there. The store is beautiful inside and out, and they actually had a decent pile of .22LR bulk packs at 27.99 and 29.99, depending on whether you wanted CCI or Winchester (Win was in a "fancy" wooden slide-top box), and they had primers at non-absurd pricing (CCI SPPs were $33/1000). Also got a free hat for being one of the first X people through the door, which certainly didn't hurt. Sadly, as Rodentman said, there really wasn't any pistol powder, but presumably they'll get that eventually. I was somewhat disappointed in the size of the aquarium after the ones in Rogers & Owatonna; the one in Woodbury is one you might theoretically see at somebody's house if you happened to have particularly well-off friends. It's still a neat exhibit, but not as impressive as the ones at the larger stores.

About 1130 I drove by the store, as I was in the area.
Seeing the lot full, people parking @ homers depot, crossing Hudson Rd 30+ at each stop light cycle, and traffic backed up on Radio Dr back to, and apparently on the freeway off ramp, I decided to take a pass for now. I don't really need anything at the moment, and it will obviously be there a while.
I was tempted to swing by GM, just to see how they're doing, and maybe suggest they rent out their lot for shuttle- parking...

I'm sure they have the same camo that every other store has.

Got there around 1 today and grabbed what appeared to be one of the last two bricks of blazer, but passing through the ammo section 10 min later I noticed another 10 bricks on the shelf, so its obvious they were restocking throughout the day. Tons of rifle powder and a few jars of pistol powder on the shelves along with a full range of primers, unfortunately they didn't have the lee starter kit I was looking for. The gun library and used section was disappointing but the new guns were all in stock, and service was surprisingly easy to get.

I kind of liked the new layout for the taxidermy display. Despite it being much smaller than either other Cabellas' display (in terms of sq footage), you could get a closer look at more of the animals. The aquarium was disappointingly small, and I have in fact seen larger in several people's homes (i know lots of fish nuts).

Overall I was glad I stopped by. Despite the crowds I never had to wait more than a min or two for help an the employes were all well trained and friendly.

I drove by there on Saturday afternoon. I thought they were giving away money by the number of cars there. It was probably all window shoppers.

Woodbury Cabela's

I brought my boys there today. I spent more time in the parking lot waiting for a space than shopping. I picked up a tumbler and met some nice folks from DGGC. I'm looking forward to bringing my 7 year old to the youth shoot.

We have an acquaintance who pisses and moans about the Walmart effect on sending jobs overseas yet they have been living at the Woodbury Cabelas since they opened. I can't figure out what the attraction is when one can see the same Glocks and camo if they go one exit east to Gander Mountain.

Well, unless something has changed since I was last there, Gander doesn't stock reloading supplies. That's the attraction for me - one more option for powder & primers.
