That's quite a collection!

A few tempting firearms there, I'm sure I'll see a few of you there.

I wouldn't waste my time. A few nice pieces but mostly junk. With just a cursory look, it's obvious either the collector or auctioneer hasn't got a clue.

Like this example:
99M1 Grand, S#AP6088, 1942 Military Bolt Action with Bayonet
A bolt action Garand? Now that would be a collector piece! :rotf:

ETA:

Don't dispair though, I'm sure you could buy one of these "collector" BB guns for 1 or 2x retail.

I've never been to a gun auction, but I used to attend a lot of tool and equipment auctions. Invariably the auctions held on weekends attracted a lot of 'non-professional' types, for lack of a better word. Most of these folks are quite vulnerable to the excitement of the moment, and the ability of the auctioneer to goad them into bidding up the price of most stuff far beyond a reasonable price- often above new.
Some people's competitive instincts get the best of them at these things. . . another $1/ $5/ $20 just to keep the other guy from sending you home empty-handed.

On the other hand if one keeps their eyes open, it might be possible to get a bargain or 2.
I once bought several hundred feet of heavy duty extension cords, and a Ridgid 36" bolt cutter for little more than pocket change because they had paint spilled on them.

I'll pass on this one.
The only thing I found googling the guns' owner is that he recently passed away.

Looked like a lot of stuff. Not good stuff. Just a lot.

There might be a couple of "theater" or "radar" knives in there.

This auctioneer is horribly organized... have to click on 'SAM GIDDINGS' on their main page to get the real info via an image of the auction flyer. It's actually at the Anoka Fairgrounds not all the way up in Mora. There's a viewing Saturday evening, might swing by and see if there's anything worthwhile since that's only about 10 minutes from me.

I went for the preview on saturday, and was generally unimpressed. Most of the things in my price range were in really rough shape, including amateur and kludge repairs. Several guns being sold as complete were missing springs, pins or worse. Other guns were completely mislabeled. Lots of toys and cheap knives that hold no interest for me. A few pistols and shotguns were tempting, but with my limited knowledge and considering the (non)functional state of other guns I didn't think a return trip would be worth it today.

I went. Was pretty slow. Pistols were all on tables behind a fence, had to ask to see them, couldn't get close enough to really scan them to see if anything caught your eye.

First 2 hrs were the misc junk, holsters and knifes. Didn't even start guns till after noon and they started with the BB/pellet guns. I left about 2:00 and they were not even half way through the pistols yet. So guessing they didn't get to rifles till 3 or 3:30. A lot of the rifles were junk. Some of them I could see marks on the barrels from where he had them hanging on the wall by metal hooks. Others had descriptions taped onto the stocks with tape which ruined the stock. I did get an incredible deal on a newer model air rifle though.
