Private seller table worthwhile?

Postby whiteox on Thu Aug 07, 2014 9:13 am

I've got six guns to sell. Thinking about getting a table at the crocodile show in Anoka for Sunday.

Anybody else have any experience with this?

Did you have success or just waste a day at a gun show?

I havent done it, but based on what I've seen for selling prices at those shows, you probably would do well if you set reasonable prices to start. You'd stand out simply against the high prices and crappy inventory of everyone else.

Best idea would be to post the guns for sale here to start though. I think most stuff moves through here pretty quickly, assuming prices are fair. Post over at mngunsite too.

Good luck,

eta: looks like you are already posting things here. Again, good luck.

I'm not planning to attend the crocodile show in Anoka.

Armslist is free and hits a wider audience.... In practice I see items sell on Armslist about 10:1 vs this forum if I list them for the same price on the same day, just not enough traffic around here any more to have a particularly good marketplace section. As for the gun show table, I would consider the price of entry less significant than the cost in time + frustration to sit around a show all day letting the drooling public & lowballers finger bang your guns, but that's just me. Plus you are competing with the Sportsman's show this weekend just up the road and a glut of gun/ammo availability in the market which I expect is driving down panic buying and thus gun show attendance compared to last year.

Thanks

Just FYI, a table will run $35 at the door if there are open tables. You get two free passes for each vender and depending on the sale amount you may need a tax id??

A private seller doing one show should not need a sales tax ID. At least they use to be exempt when I did more shows. They are kind of fun. About 1-2 per year is about all I care for now. The problem isn't so much selling it's the buying. It's hard not to spend when you are stuck at the show all weekend. The best gun show deals happen after hours that's the nice part about having a table.
