Or is it to much of a pain/expense?

if you like keeping your money, then don't get one. The discounts on stuff from vendors and the ability to buy great old handguns and rifles, and have them straight to your home makes it tough to keep the money.

I've had it for acouple of years and love it.. but it costs much more than the ATF fees ;)

It is cheap but Midway USA dropped its dealer discount. Brownell's still has their program, depends on what you buy. Also, the can and do audit you. My buddy sells hundreds of guns as a regular FFL over 7 years. No audit every. I never bought a gun on my C&R in 4 years. I had an on-site review. Hard not to pass, but spent 45 minutes with a pretty nice investigator.

Its great if you like C&R guns. I've had mine about 4 or 5 years now. I've bought 6 guns with it I think.
The best was when I had a Tokarev pistol and 2 mags shipped right to my door.
So I've saved money, you just have to keep a binder of all your C&R guns after you got the license.

I had one for years to get discounts on parts, but it seems that the places I buy except for Brownells no longer accept it, or the discount is not worth it to me, so I let mine go about a year ago. May be different for you especially if you are collecting C&R firearms.

What's the process, time and cost? I have also been thinking about getting one.

Well worth it!

I have had one for nearly 10 years now and the ability to get discounts at certain on line retailers, order older guns on line for delivery to my door, and get out of a 4473 when the local gunshop or auction is busy (with qualifying guns and a willing FFL) is worh the $35 and a few minutes of paperwrk.

You do have to keep records and the Government is able to get into your business but for a collector it is often worth it.

If you have a C&R NFA firearm, It's much easier to cross state lines.

Is this something one would really want to get to keep at their home or is it better to just let him out now and again then send back to his den?
