20ga 870 Wingmaster. Not new. Older, when the quality was higher.
lighter, less recoil,
still more than enough stopping power.

Probably my Para Limited P-14 in 45 ACP. Very common but potent caliber and highest capacity possible.

Easy choice for me. Benelli M1 Super 90. If I can have three barrels for my one gun, one would be a smooth bore just long enough to reach the end of the mag tube. The second would be a rifled barrel with iron sights and last would be a 30 inch with choke tubes and a +9 mag tube. That one gun would serve the most purposes for me.

If we're talking handguns, then my choice would be a CZ 75B in .40 S&W, with a heavier (20 lb.) recoil spring.

One gun, a quality pump shotgun. Now if the question was meant to be one handgun, that would be a bit harder to choose, but probably a quality revolver. I am thinking of the end of the world type situation and a pump shotgun or revolver will be more forgiving of harsh environment, lack of maintenance and any or poor ammo which may be all that is available. If it is meant that times are good but I must limit myself to one handgun it would be would be a quality 1911, I like my Baers and for one gun only, it would be a Benelli M1 shotgun.

One gun only?

Shotgun for sure, because of the choice of ammo. Shot, buckshot and slug covers many purposes. The shotgun was the choice of western pioneers because they usually could only afford one gun. Single shot but if they could afford it, a double.

Type today, pump. Brand Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. Totally reliable with various ammo.

12 gauge. 3 inch chambers. (Again, wider ammo choice.) Two barrels, 18 inch slug and 26 inch birdshot, would be nice.

One handgun only? Although I'm a 1911 guy, it would be a 357 Mag revolver because of ammo selection. S&W or Ruger.

Thankfully, I don't have to make the above choices although I have examples of the above.
Because I care, I carry.

If I can only have one gun, I have to presume it's truly a SHTF scenario. In which case I'll take one of my AR's.

When I answered 870, an AR was my other option. I'm surprised at how many are answering some type of handgun. Even if the initial scenario isn't SHTF, I'd sure hate to be limited to a pistol for the rest of my life.

Not really surprised, but would you like to explain?

Why would I want to fire a bunch of guns that are nothing but dinner bells.

Just as effective as anything else listed. Carry a lot more ammo as well for less weight.

I hope my answer wasn't in that category if anything I take an AR, handgun only if I'm limited to one. I see nothing that a shotgun can do that an AR can't do better other than hit a flying bird but who cares if they are flying when I only get one gun?

SLR-106-UR. basically a krink in 7.62x39.

Compact light, packs enough punch for deer, or two legged predators. With a red-dot I can hit 8 inch plates at 250 with it.

I love it.

Just an FYI, the watermark is joke... HDLS stands for High Drag Low speed.... and yes i know tactical is spelled incorrectly... I did up the pic to taunt mall ninjas.

One is a lot easier than 3 or 5 or 10. I'd keep the 9" AAC 300 BLK AR pistol. Because it is a great all purpose round out to 200 yds or so and with only the one gun I could afford to keep it fed. Which optic is harder. I guess the 3x ACOG as I could also run it like a red dot occluded.
