PD chief "purchase permits take more than 5 business days"

edit: picked it up this afternoon. She had quite a big stack to dig through to find mine. Must be busy for some reason.

edit2: after reading this thread again I notice some people say they had their permit mailed to them. I was expecting that, but in the mail today was a letter saying I had to come to the PD and show an ID to pick up the permit. Is that normal and expected? Kind of a pain in the ass if you ask me.

So, I stopped in during the morning. They told me no way was I getting it soon. Said if I didn't like it I should either call the chief or file a civil suit.

I called the Chief at about 8:30. He wasn't in yet, office said he would call me back.

I called again at 11:30, he was in a meeting.

I then called the city attorney and left a message.

I went to the fourth district court and got forms to request a civil hearing.

At about 1:00 the chief called and told me my permit was ready to pick up, said that Human Services had gotten back to them. I now have my permit in hand.

Umm yeah, usually they just mail the permit to you. I know some people have had them delivered by cops out on their regular patrol.

Are you saying they sent you a 42¢ letter to tell you to come pick up your permit when they could have just put the little paper card in that same damned envelope?

Yes, I also noticed that they took a photocopy of the ID and permit together. Does anyone know what records are kept in Minnesota? I'm really worried about the day they come looking for all the guns I lost in the lake.

I have zero doubt that we are now in a pd database of plymouth gunowners. should come in handy in any disaster during which they wish to remove all weapons from the city.

a slight variany of this scenario happened to me yesterday at the brooklyn park pd. i went in to renew my purchase permit. after filling out the paperwork and getting my driver's license photo copied the woman behind the security glass said, "... they will begin processing this next tuesday and it takes 7 days after that ...". i walked away about 6 steps thinking that makes it 12 days total. what's with that?? so i went back to the window and explained what i was thinking and that the law says it must be done in 7 days. she just shrugged her shoulders and said, "that's all i can tell you."
actually, i am in no big hurry since my old ptp isn't expiring soon. i am a bit perturbed about a government agency deliberately vioating law(s) they are to uphold and enforce.

call the chief, read him the law, and ask nicely that it be done on time in accordance with the law, as it deeply bothers you that he can have such a flippant disregard for what is clearly written in the law.

How about all the laws you ignore, violate, or just pay lip service to when it suits you? That's alright I suppose.

All the excess days demonstrate is that PTCs and PTPs aren't as allfired important to the police as they are to the people submitting the apps. Yes, it's wrong, no, it's not a dastardly conspiracy by the goose-stepping thugs to violate your rights. When their blasphemous behavior is pointed out it appears they contritely slip into line and the world keeps turning.
