I think that is a law suit, why citizens need to pay for lawyers to fight BS like this I don't know. :(

I can assume letters have been sent notifying these little tyrants of their over reach?

Putting some teeth into this law is a legislative priority for GOCRA and MNGOPAC for the 2015 session - but we're going to need some specific concrete examples to help illustrate the issue to the legislature.

Thanks,

Are you? You obviously have a problem with GOCRA so why not just start your own group then?

Ditto. I think I first applied for a PTP in 2000 or 2001, and it never took more than eight days from the day I dropped off the application. Given two days for the weekend and another for snail mail, I would say that meets the requirement.

You'd have to talk w/ GOCRA about that one - but I believe that's an area they would like to address.

Thanks for the reminder... need to renew mine! Applied in Oct of 2013, town cop delayed it, gave excuses that he was waiting for a response from MN dept of health to see if they had a file on me, and finally issued a permit 1/10/2014 which was 3 days after I received a permit from the county sheriff after I bypassed the town cop. Dropped off the permit app with the county sheriff Jan 2 and had the permit Jan 7th. In either case it was a renewal from the previous year. PTP needs to be good for 3 years minimum, the state can revoke it by letter to the local PD that issued it.

So your PTC meant PTP is not really valid... Law does not allow for the Sheriff to issue the permit, unless an agreement is in place between your Chief LE in the jurisdiction in which you reside and the Chief LE in the county you reside. I have seen County Atty order the Sheriff to revoke a permit issued like this! Left much egg on the Sheriffs face.

Edit to correct PTC to PTP!!!!

Only Sheriffs issue PTC's (Permit To Carry).

PTP (Permit To Purchase) is issued by the police that have jurisdiction of your residence (unless that has been passed to the Sheriff) or the Sheriff if you live in the country.

Town cop was refusing to do his job so the sheriff took over. Town cop was fired too. Right now the sheriff provides anything we might need. Town of 280 so not a lot of issues, occasional kid doing some vandalism. Had gangs try to form at the school but the out of town gang members were given a choice to leave by angry parents
