Flagged on Armslist?

Postby MXGreg on Fri Jan 09, 2015 8:40 am

I had placed a WTB ad on Armslist for a rifle I was looking for. Had one guy respond but his rifle wasn't quite what I was looking for and was way more than I wanted to pay. I politely told him I wasn't interested. Shortly after my ad disappeared and when I try to relist it nothing shows up. Did this guy flag me because I didn't buy his rifle? Hoping someone with more experience on Armslist can enlighten me to what's going on. Thanks.

Hard to say without seeing the original ad: was it not in the proper group, etc.

Anyone can flag you ad for any reason, however 1 will not take the ad down. Unfortunately I do not know what the threshold is - but I do know that a small group of people can effectively decide what does and doesn't stay on Armslist. This somewhat started during the .22 craze when people started asking exorbitant prices - pretty soon all .22 ads came down regardless. Personally I think that the market can determine the price, but, whatever.

It usually takes a little bit for an ad to show up to the rest of the world, however you should receive an administration link right away.

armslist is one of those places that I love.. to hate.

did you create the posting using a "login"? i think they still allow postings if you do not have a user ID created. so you may want to create a user ID as the postings may have different thresholds for flagging.

I think to flag something it takes multiple people flagging to get it removed. the exception to this is if it's a scam, i think the add gets reviewed by a real person and not just some computer algorithm.

i tried looking up their standards a while back for flagging adds and had no luck finding them. however i think one of their newsletters said something about the "scam" flagging getting personal attention.

you have to be quick on armslist when a true deal appears or it's gone in a flash.. otherwise you can buy used guns at better than retail all day long. I have made a few really good trades on there.

Takes 3 flags from different people if you are registered. I don't know if it is different for unregistered. If dealer register you can't be flagged at all. None of those should have any effect on re-listing. There is an email link to complain which will typically take care of the guy with 2 buddies flagging but they do take a week or so to respond.

Looks like I'm going to have to register and see if that works.
