I didn't see the debate, but I think Cruz and Paul would do the best as far as 2a issues alone. I don't see Trump being the shooting communities white knight or anything like that tbh.

Trump is the comedy show before the real election. It seems like he starts with a grain of something that makes sense (illegal immigration is a problem) and then amplifies it to the point of lunacy ("They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they're telling us what we're getting.") Not only do statements like that make him look silly, they make him look like a jerk. As a result, regardless of what you think of the ideas behind the rhetoric, he's a tough sell.

Jeb stated in an interview last week that gun ownership is a states rights issue under the 10th Amendment. He's a worthless piece of **** who would sell us out in a second if he thought it would benefit him even the slightest amount. Rand is unelectable, just like his father was. He's also a NAGR supporter, which is a money raising scam that does nothing to actually advance gun rights. Minnesota Gun Rights, which is ran out of Iowa and has done exactly zero for gun rights is an affiliate of theirs, and siphon away several hundred thousand in donations annually from organizations that actually do the hard work. Anyone who supports NAGR is not a friend of gun rights, but of the money they can scam out of people. Carly Fiorina seems to be solidly in our camp.

Obviously, Cruz is the strongest 2A supporter, with Paul running a close second. As jshuberg mentioned, Paul is unelectable, so that basically leave Cruz as the most viable 2A supporter in the bunch. As for the rest, Fiorina has taken a fairly solid 2A stance, but as a non-pol, doesn't have a voting record to back it up, and Rubio has a strong pro-2A record (Walker, Huckleberry and Jindahl do too, but they're non-factors). I wouldn't trust the shrub or Christie - either one of them would throw us under the bus in a heartbeat if they thought it was politically expedient. Carson is talking the talk lately, but it runs contradictory to comments he has made in the past. Trump is Trump - I don't like him, he's sleazy, and I think his rhetoric is a front to paint Republicans as racist, xenophobic, misogynistic rubes.

I think Cruz is as unelectable as Paul, he'll draw strong support from people who traditionally vote Republican on the far and evangelical right, but alienate the independent/middle ground voters who win elections. Rubio and Fiorina are both strong on 2a issues with more appeal to moderate and independent voters.

Well, in fairness, of the dems, 1 is an unconvicted murderer and the least trustworthy 2016 candidate for president and the other is an avowed socialist. Neither dem is electable at this point.

Also, for what it's worth, Trump is a gun owner. Cruz is my preferred candidate and the best on all the issues I care about. But any Republican is better than any Dem.

In the world of no absolutely "perfect" Candidate, I'd have to say that I wouldn't be pissed off if any of the candidates won. When McCain was running, I held my nose and voted because he was the candidate. Romney wasn't as bad, but he certainly wasn't a conservative. It feels like, for the most part, the "principled conservative" appears to be the tack of over half the candidates. The mushy middle candidates, normally the only offering, are still there, but at least there are alternatives.

Trump continues to insult his way to keeping his top spot - interesting to watch.

History is favoring the Republicans. The only party to retain control of the white house after holding it for two 4 years terms (since Roosevelt) was the Republicans after Reagan. The reason was that people really liked what Reagan did for the country, and handed Bush Sr. the presidency as a result. That is absolutely not the case for Obama. Most of the country thinks negatively about his presidency, including many dems. The idea that the dems will retain control of the white house in 2016 goes against every historical trend in presidential politics. That's why there are 2800+ republican candidates. They see it as whoever wins the nomination will most certainly win the presidency. It's also why the republican primaries and caucuses are so important this election.

Jeb cannot be allowed to win the nomination. He will sell us out for pocket change given the chance. He is the establishment favorite, and must be stopped at all cost.

The problem there, is the party is fractured, and the establishment is seeking to drive that wedge. The more fractured the outliers are, the better the chances of BushIII. There is some evidence out there the the party establishment is as responsible for the huge field as anything.

There never was a "Party of Reagan". Reagan was despised by the party insiders, or Country Club Republicans, as they were called back then. Just as today, they ran around telling everyone who'd listen, that he was a joke and had no chance of winning.

I don't know what to make of Trump. I think he'd be a bitter disappointment if elected, much like our Jessie (The Bonehead) Ventura was. The one thing he's doing right is he's showing the way how to attract voters by taking a stand for America and what is American, and not backing down when confronted by a hostile media.
