New greenhouse

Postby Jackpine Savage on Wed Dec 09, 2015 8:00 pm

I built my DW a greenhouse for her chickens earlier in the fall and decided I needed one too. Finished up as the snowflakes were flying.

I drove rebar stakes in the ground to anchor the ends of the PVC conduit hoops, threw together the end walls, tied it all together with duct tape, and stretched plastic over it. I probably have $60 in it.

So what the hell is this doing in the gun forum? Spring, summer, and fall get busy and I never seem to get my load development done. Not much fun trying to shoot groups when you're shivering. So the greenhouse house sits over my shooting bench.

Here's the range, target stands at 25, 50, 100, 200, and 300.

Now all you need is a wood stove. Or at least a Sunflower...
Add more pics when you turn it into the ultimate man cave.

Excellent idea!

If plastic was put on with two layers, a small fan blowing air between the layers adds insulation effect and lets the sun heat up the interior and keeps it that way longer. It also allows for the snow to slide off more easily.

Nice setup.

Thanks guys. My DW's greenhouse has been in the mid 70's so far when the sun is out. That's with some chicken body heat but it's got a vent too. It'll be interesting to see how it works. Backup heat is available.

The next project is a gun rack.

May have a problem. Discovered yesterday that greenhouse condensation + AR with brake = cold shower. OldmanFCSA, I don't think my greenhouse will be rated for .50 BMG!

It was raining yesterday and 40 degrees. Hopefully things will dry out. And my bolt guns don't have brakes. I'll keep this updated.

Yes, rapid compression of the air will cause moisture to collect and drop out.

While shooting a Match with a light mist, each shot would stop the mist for about a second and then fall as large rain drops until the mist took over again, then repeated with each shot.

How many layers of plastic did you use ?

If two, or more, a fan blowing air between layers will help with condensation. But remember you have created a closed ecosystem within your greenhouse.

I just used 1 layer of plastic. Hopefully as the temps and humidity drop it will be less of a problem.
