I've never been delayed and the sales guys running the check are always surprised at how fast it returns. I don't know if I should be happy or scared.

Back in the early 90's a clerk at the gun store inverted the middle two numbers of my ssno, and of course it bounced. Every FFL I have talked to says that there is no way to correct the system. Only a government would create a system that cannot be fixed. Twenty plus years of bounces and still no fix. My local FFL says that the pin MIGHT help, but he doubts it. I still buy, I just have to grit my teeth. Grrrrr.

The number one reason for delays is a DWI in your past. NICS has to review the case to see if it involved either alcohol or drugs

I never use my SSN on 4473.

Well no shocker, but I was delayed yet again today. Traditionally I've been cleared within 24 hours or told come back in 3 days. Today I was told I'm delayed until 1/5/16. What the hell! Did some new law get passed under the radar that I know nothing about?

I don't know of any new laws, but given that you were delayed on 12/29, three days - not counting holidays and weekends - would be 1/4. They probably told you 1/5 to be on the safe side.

I've never had them tell me when to come back. They just call when cleared. Sometimes 4 days sometimes less then 24hrs
