I added the stack on (https://www.stack-on.com/categories/sec ... roducts/72) to my rifle stack on cabinet. Wifes pistol is on top shelf and mine is on the bottom which is in the bedroom. Finger print unlock mechanism sucks but using the 4 digit key pad is quick. Works for me using medium size pistols.

I saw the GunVault GS1000S in this weeks Mills Fleet Farm ad for $88.

Go figure.

Father in law called while he was at cabelas and bought a 2 gun safe that comes with a single case (key lock). I've always kept it simple and had them near the bed with out a safe. Anytime a child is coming over I have to go around and remove firearms and have been thinking about whether or not safes are an option. I should explore. Life is so full of trade offs... I feel like a case of "safer"could be made either way.

I'm planning on trying 1 or 2 different safes around the house/truck to see if they are something I should keep. Thank you all for the info/opinions/experience/time

I think these look pretty nice. http://www.shotlock.com and they aren't super expensive either.

I ordered one of the shotgun models off amazon for my son in law the other day. The pistol versions seem nice and well made as well. I like the electronic or mechanical lock option, think i prefer mechanical over electronic in this capacity. I currently have a couple gunvault 1000 which I like too

Available on amazon, i'm not affiliated

The shot lock shotgun Solo-Vault 200, mechanical version, looks great. As for the electronic version...pass. I had to chuckle when they demonstrated the "emergency" backup battery over-ride. I can see someone in an emergency trying to plug the cord in so they can enter their combo. Right. Assuming that they have fresh batteries in the backup override and have it stored in easy access to the Solo-Vault. I really see nothing but disadvantages with the electric version. Why would you even want the electric version over the mechanical? To save yourself from having to turn a knob?

I store out of sight, above line-of-sight.
Being 6'7+" and an arm span of 7'3" allows me to store high enough to prevent most adults and children from reaching, even if they did know where to look. My 6' wife does similar.
This requires you to be out of bed, hopefully fully awake before accessing your firearm.
Laying in bed, hearing a noise that awakens you, grabbing your gun while not fully awake, may result in shooting loved ones.
Please be careful with your selections and practices.
