Gravel Pits north of Duluth?

Postby crickyb on Sun Jan 17, 2016 7:46 pm

My sister bought me some tannerite for Christmas and I need a place to shoot it (aka not at a range). Any suggestions for good spots not too far north of Duluth? (The closer to Pike Lake the better)

Run up to the Marshall Trail or Brimson Road. Lots of clear-cuts there from past logging.

A lot of state forests have open shooting pits during non hunting times. As stated above gravel pits are usually tagged no tresspassing.

Jan 17 2008 RED WING, Minn.
A 30-year-old man from Welch Township has been charged with 3 felonies after a huge explosion on his property prompted authorities to put the Prairie Island nuclear plant a mile away on alert.

Prosecutors claim Childs bought 100 pounds of the explosive Tannerite off the Internet. The explosive was loaded into the rear end of a dump truck on Sunday and detonated by a .50-caliber rifle round.

Childs told investigators the explosion sent debris up to a quarter-mile away.

Goodhue County prosecutors on Wednesday charged Brian Wesley Childs with gross disregard for human life and several lesser charges. All told, he was charged with three felonies and five lesser counts....

A man was killed by shrapnel at a farm in Fillmore County, Minnesota on June 15, 2013, after Tannerite was shot at a bachelor-bachelorette party after it was placed inside some metal objects. Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen stated that in this case the Tannerite was “used with other materials” in a manner that was not included in the manufacturer’s recommendations...[3]

Hahaha yikes. Realized last night that I couldn't even use it b/c you need to shoot it with a high-power rifle and I only have handguns and a .22. But when I eventually do go I'll make sure to triple check that its state land.
