Gun Friendly Optometrist

Postby mmcnx2 on Thu Feb 18, 2016 12:10 pm

I'm looking for an Optometrist that is pistol shooter friendly.

I have a heavy reading prescription and have had a terrible time finding a doctor that will help me setup a pair of glasses for shooting pistols. I need something that will let me see the sights without have to look through the bottom of my glasses, As my eyes have continued to get worse I've gotten to the point of putting reddots on everything so I can see.

I got great service from Gorman Optical in Roseville. A small place, but that woman really knows her stuff. Made me a great pair of shooting glasses a few years ago.
Something that I tried lately, though, is these stickon lenses...

Buy them about 1/2 of your reading prescription, and stick on on the top of the lens of your dominant eye.
Works just about as well as my prescription shooting glasses, at very minimal cost.
Good luck.

I use mono vision glasses for pistol shooting. The right lens is corrected for the distance to my front sight, the left lens is corrected for distance. It takes a few minutes for my eyes to adjust but works well, ymmv.

I had my DW measure the distance before I went to the optometrist, at the local Wally world, the guy said he hadn't had that request before but it was no problem.

Excellent article, now all I need is a Doctor willing to read it and make me some glasses. Thanks.
