Just one rugrat, so the non-locking of it is a deal breaker. Gun Vault sitting right on the nightstand works just fine.

Kids are all grown, just grandkids now, so, yeah, just need to remember when grandkids come, it's time to lock it up!

Grandpa can fix ANYTHING, lol. I need to figure a way to lock this vent, shouldn't be real difficult, need to get it and think on it! lol ;)

If the heads of the four bolts aren't already made for a really unique driver, swap them out for bolts that take a small torx, hex, Roberts(square), or star drive.

Alternately, with the register slid closed to the right as pictured, drive a blocking bolt into the wall on the left side of the register.
Or just get a NanoVault.

If you are concerned about having access, couldn't you just wear you piece around the house? otherwise a small safe is the only way to go with kids running around. I can't see having something like this and have it be convenient. I'll bet it looks different than most of the heat grates or air returns you have in your house. please post a review if you get one.

I was looking into a hollowed out book. You know kids won't be messing with books

Heres one that opens with an RFID card or bobble. seems a bit more secure.

I thought about this one for a long time, didn't buy it, but it needs to go somewhere that is convenient. Maybe not for a gun, but can be used to hide other things like money, jewelry, etc. In speaking with several police officers that I know, most burglars don't like to spend a lot of time in a house. They want in and out. They look for the obvious first, but dont' think they'd spend the time to look at all the vents. Only time they would do that is if they had been casing the home for a while and know that there is a high probability that no one is coming home for a while.
