Got stopped at the conveyor. Guy asked me was there anything in the bag that should t be. Said no. He dug into the bag and pulled out a box of 380 ammo. I GOT SICK. No firearm, of course. I took out my license and PTC. I was lucky I had my glasses, ear pro and a folded up target in the bag too. I told him I was just at the range, forgot it was there. They called MPD over. That took 5 minutes. The 2 guys said they were sorry but they had to confiscate it. Said I wasn't under arrest. After that, they walked me over to the DHS lady who copied down my drivers license info. And I was on my way. 15 minutes and caught my flight. 2 weeks later I get a letter from the DOJ (I think, don't remember). Said I had committed a civil offense and I could pay a $250 fine. Wrote the check and that was that. Have flown MANY times since and I'm apparently NOT on any list. I LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON THAT DAY.

Who's the victim of your crime?
Sam, that comment is racist. We have all kinds of white idiots who bomb federal buildings and didn't need to get on a plane to do it. 9/11 they used box cutters and only one of 4 planes put up any fight at all. That's the real tragedy.
Since anyone could get irate and do something crazy, like shoot up the cabin at 20,000'; why are pilots now allowed to carry? They're little more than taxi drivers of a big freaking bus and half of them can't land the plane without the computer doing it for them these days anyway (do some research on pilot proficiency sometime - you might decide to walk instead).
But the fact remains that these laws are contrary to our God given rights (the bill of rights), and our benevolent dictators have removed them in the name of public safety (Ben Franklin had some smart words to say about that concept). So I'm sure all of you will be in favor of another AWB, because, the children! Right? And we should have socialism because some people are too stupid to carry health insurance, right? And if you can't trust the guy in 22A with a gun in mid flight, you shouldn't trust him on the ground with one either, and we don't have a way to mentally screen anyone so I guess we just need to ban all guns...
Seriously? This is what the brain trust here has come to? My ideology is what founded this country. Maybe yours is out of whack with what we need here.

Why does it need to be a multi-kilobuck felony when they get caught at the security screening? Why not just give them the option of having the gun confiscated/destroyed or speedily finding some off-site storage? Obviously leaving a gun in your carry-on is a dumb thing to do, but in most cases, it's a brain fart situation rather than something caused by actual malice/ill intent. Why not treat it as such and give people a chance to fix the problem? If you get patted down going into a concert and you have something they don't want to let into the venue, you go put it in your car and come back. Why does this need to be any different?
